Marie Iere de Normandite, known as the Renarde (Vixen), is one of the greatest figures in the history of Vinland. She is nicknamed the Vixen because of her red hair and her cunning.

Eldest daughter of Baron de Normandite Jean I (1338-1365-1381) she was married in 1377 to Edouard III de Nouvanjou as part of the friendship between the two baronies.

In 1381 Jean I died and his son Richard IV (1365-1381-1386) succeeded him. Very quickly this young man who only likes parties and pleasure proves incapable or even dangerous for the dynasty. He died in 1386 during a party that he was too drunk – a suspicion of poisoning then weighed on Marie.

However, she does not recover the crown because the son of Richard IV, Richard V,  who is only 3 months old succeeds her but she is named regent.

Richard V dies two years later and the crown goes to his uncle Edward I (1371-1388-1409), a shy, sickly and impotent sexually. Marie will then govern for him and succeed him on his death in 1409.

From 1388 until her death in 1429, Marie will retain the reality of power.

Marie and her husband will then fight against the ambitions of Richard II of England.

The money of Potosi allows the creation of a powerful professional army which counts in 1400 30,000 mens and a navy of 60 ships including 13 large carracks purchased from the Hansa.

King Richard II plans a war against Normandite with the help of Kebec to seize southern Vinland.

But Richard II has many enemies at home. He was overthrown by Henry of Bollingbroke in the summer of 1399. Henry became King of England under the name of Henry IV (1367-1399-1413).

Normandians agents manage to exfiltrate Richard II towards Normandite where he arrives, totally helpless, at the beginning of October 1399.

Marie declares that she does not recognize Henri IV and promises to replace Richard II on his throne. Hanging around the deposed king like a pawn, she occupied Insular Vinland from October 1399.

Then he was sent to New England where the viceroy John Montagu (1349-1412) remained faithful. In February 1400 Richard II accompanied by Normandians troops is installed on the throne of Texcoco. In a few months all the English dependencies of Vinland rallied to Richard.

In England, Henry IV, faced with a series of revolts, is unable to mount an expedition to Vinland.
Finally the baron of Kebec Wulfnoth VI is intimidated by the Normandite and chooses to recognize Richard II in 1401.

The separation of Vinland and England is then total.
