So back on July 8th I walked into a GameStop store to preorder Assassins Creed Revelations for the PC. I paid the full price for the game and waited.
On the 14th I checked up on the game to see the PC version had been pushed back till today
I didn't get a call on the 15th so that convinced me it was delayed.
I got home today, PC release date, to find no messages on my machine. My husband calls the store and says they only hold preorders for 48 hrs, and something about I didn't get a call because I wasn't one of their loyalty members. (WTF?!)
At that point I am LIVID
. My husband drives me to the store so I can talk with them directly.
They sold the last game in store earlier in the day. They called the store manager to see about ordering another copy, and shipping it to me. I made sure to confirm with the employee it would be the special preorder edition. Though the employee couldn't say how long it would take.
I angrily asked why my game was not waiting for me, why I didn't get a call. The story (this time) was that it's Corporate's job to call people. I call BS. When I worked as a Bookseller and we had something on hold, we called EVERY DAY
that it was on hold before we re-shelved the item.
And here's the GOOD part.. They've been selling the PC version since the original release date, the 15th. We told them the PC version was delayed till today. It was news to them, they had them out selling them. So MY
preordered copy was on hold on the 15th for 2 days, NO CALL, and they re-shelved it.
I told them I'm NEVER
preordering a game from GameStop again.
Oh and as I walked out he gave one of those "Woah she's pissed" whistles which of course I heard since I was still in the store.
I'm currently on hold with corporate and have been for over 50 minutes. Least to say it looks like I'm filling out their contact form.
This is UNACCEPTABLE.
Now I'm glad they're trying to make this right, that they're trying to get me a copy. But someone screwed up and they screwed up BADLY
Never ever again. I don't care what special edition they have. I don't care if they put $100 in the box. Never ever again.
This is what I put in the form on GameStop's website. I'm supposed to get a response in 24-48 hrs but I'm doubtful of that considering how busy their phone line was.
COMPLAINT: On July 8th I preordered the PC version of Assassins Creed Revelations: Special Edition from a GameStop store located on [snipping this out of DA post..].
On Nov 14th I went online to see if the PC version was still coming out on the 15th. I found out the PC version had been pushed back till today the 29th. (See: forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tp…
for proof) On the 15th I received NO phone call so that sealed the deal for me that it was delayed.
Today when I got home there again was NO message on my machine. My husband Giuliano called the store and they said they only hold preorders for 48 hours and they had sold the last game earlier. At that point I was very angry and my husband drove me to the store. The store employee called the store manager ([snipped again, but I did name the person]) to see about ordering me a copy and have it shipped to me, though he couldn't say how long that would take.
When I asked why I didn't receive a call, the employee said that it was Corporate's job to call me. (And please confirm that information. I want to be sure I have been correctly informed.) When I asked why my copy wasn't waiting for me, they said they did hold it, on the 15th. They had been selling the PC version since the original release date of Nov 15th. Both employees there did not know at ALL that the PC version had been pushed back. They reassured they had been selling it in store all that time.
So my copy was put on reserve on the 15th, I got NO call, not on the 15th, nor a courtesy call on the 16th as a reminder. No notification whatsoever.
So here I am today, when I expected to have the game, with NO Assassins Creed Revelations Special Edition PC game and NO idea when one will be able to be available for me.
Now I appreciate that the store is trying to set this right. I appreciate that they're trying to get me a copy. The reason I am so upset is that I was NEVER called, NEVER notified. This is UNACCEPTABLE. I paid $52.99 for this game and I SHOULD have been called when the game was put on hold, and again on the 16th as a reminder. That is what I did personally when I worked retail and had items preordered or on hold for a customer. I made sure to call the customer when the item was in and again the next day if it wasn't picked up. (Technically the PC game SHOULD have been released TODAY and available TODAY as per Ubisoft's official forum post link that I entered earlier.)
I will never preorder a game through a GameStop store again if the policy for preorders relies on only the ONE phone call. Obviously my phone call was somehow lost in the shuffle and I ended up screwed. This is not how I expect to be treated as a customer when I preordered this game. I feel like I can't trust that GameStop will be able to follow-through on their end of the deal. I'm not going through a game preorder again just to wind up empty handed once more.
Update 2: Wednesday
So my husband Giuliano and the store manager talked. The manager found a copy of the game at another store and he personally went to pick it up for me. Giuliano left work early to pick up the game and the manager tossed in the game guide for free as well as an AC: Revelations advertisement poster.
So kudos to the store manager for putting the effort to right this wrong. I appreciate how he handled the situation.
However I still stand on the fact this shouldn't have happened in the first place. If their policy is only to contact a customer once about their preorder, it's a stupid policy. If the person dials wrong or someone gets accidentally passed over somehow, the customer gets screwed. I still say a courtesy call when the game was still on hold after 24 hrs would have been appropriate. At least that way I would have gotten A
call about the game.
Of course I got home about 8:10 or so tonight so I'm too tired to install the game never mind play it. (Mondays and Wednesdays are my LONG days at work.) But at least I do have it now and only had to wait an extra day. (Though technically I apparently didn't have to wait the extra 2 weeks in the first place.) Blah. I just want to put this behind me now and get to some serious gaming starting Thursday night.
