The first time Maridiel had encountered the Tribes, it had been on his own. He travelled across the vast desert when he was only 18 moons old, alone and recruited into the Tribes in a time of war and strife. He had been perfectly content leaving his home behind in search for adventure. This time, however, things were different. He had gone through the gateway with friends and family alike in a time of not war, but horrible pestilence that afflicted countless cats. It was a breath of fresh air no longer fearing for the lives of the ill. The gateway had cleansed all of any lingering sicknesses, and Maridiel could only silently thank the spirits for their sacrifice. As much as Maridiel’s wary muscles begged him to lay down and rest, he first had to search the crowd for his family. Although it was an irrational fear, he worried that something might not have let them pass through. “Seryph!” He called out, carefully weaving his wave between strangers
The dark tom was far from the crowd, able to find himself a little place to be solitary- alone and away from the chaos that was going on in front of the diamond portal. Seryph! A familiar voice reached out from the crowd that caused his ears to perk, quickly climbing up onto the rock to see his brother Maridiel weaving his way through the crowd of strangers. "Aedros!" Seryph called out while atop the rock he was on in attempt to have his little brother see him.
The anxiety slowly taking hold of his gut slowly lessened its grip when a familiar voice shouted to his right. Maridiel’s ears erected themselves forward and he turned his head sharply to the source calling out his name, and felt a rush of relief crash over him seeing his brother perched atop a rock, overlooking the crowd. “Seryph, there you are!” He calls out delightedly, and wasted no time in making his way toward his brother’s perch to brush his side affectionately against his. “It’s good to see you made it… you’re feeling alright, I hope? No… adverse effects after going through the portal?” It was a baseless worry, especially considering how the portal had actually helped remove the plague from ill cats, but he still wanted to be certain.
Seryph rubbed against his brother in return, a rumble in his throat- a purr. He was happy to see his brother safe and sound. "It's good to see you too little brother." The dark stocky tom bumped his head against his brother's with a smile that said many on how happy he was and relieved. "Portal affects? No, but the large amount of cats is rather... bothersome to an extent." Sitting himself down with tail tip lightly flicking as he stared at the large amount of cats gathered, troubled. "So this is the 'tribes' you were talking about, huh?" Seryph patted his paw on the rock for his brother to join him to look at all that was going on. It was rather a decent view and quite a spot for the observant ones.
Maridiel, personally, didn’t find the masses of cats too troubling at the moment. It was actually relieving, in a way, that so many cats passed through. Though, having seen the tribes in their prime, he knew this was hardly a fraction of their numbers. Maridiel sits down beside his brother and nods. “What’s left of them, anyway.” He hums solemnly, his orange gaze following the flow of felines still coming through the portal. “Back shortly before I left, there were easily at least twenty-or-so cats in every tribe. Maybe more. It really was incredible.” He turns his gaze back to his brother and asks, “Have you put any thought into joining any of them? Or do none of them really ‘speak’ to you?”
Incredible ey? Seryph only watched the cats wander about below as his brother spoke. He was paying attention, but he wasn't quite sure how to chime into the conversation as he never really experienced these tribes like Aedros did. "I don't know, Aedros. I haven't really spoken to anyone yet, more or less someone coming to speak to me." Seryph only shrugged at this, not really bothered at the thought. Though his emerald gaze found a familiar cat out in the distance. A somali mix like him that had the pelt of sun and fire... a beauty. "Though, I guess I accidentally came across someone while we were in the old world when I was helping the tribes from the shadows." Seryph spoke in a rather fond voice at the mention of meeting someone. He wasn't quite sure why he was speaking this way... an odd feeling that wanted to say hello. Strange.
The dark tom glanced over the crowd of cats curiously, trying to follow his brother’s gaze. The way he spoke, it sounded as if he was rather fond of this stranger he encountered. Were they perhaps in the crowd? If they were, Maridiel couldn’t pin-point them. Regardless, it was at least comforting that his brother had spoken to someone, at least. Even if it was just one cat, he felt it was important for him to socialize a bit more. He knew that the larger tom had been having a rough past few moons, and refused to talk about it. Maybe this cat would help Seryph open back up again? “You sound pretty enamored with this cat,” Maridiel slowly turns back to look at his brother with a teasing grin. “Did you catch their name, by chance? Or Tribe?”
A soft smile crossed his maw at his brother's words. She was pretty interesting. "I honestly have no idea. Back in the old word, I caught notice of a swirl on her shoulder. Other than that, she is a mystery." Emerald gaze keeping on her in the distance, it felt like the sun itself was warming the empty void inside him. Talking about her really caused him to waver in a sense. It was stupid really but... it was also nice. Looking to his brother, he saw a teasing grin on him which he didn't notice before considering where his eyes were on. "Oh shut up!" Seryph grabbed his brother around the neck with his head up against his fluffy chest when another danger came! His other paw! With his free paw, he managed to make it into a fist of some sorts and just gave him one hell of a noogie!
Maridiel cackled when he felt himself pulled in by his brother in an all-too-familiar ensnarement. It had been a while since Seryph grappled him like this, but it was comfortingly familiar despite how much the fur on his head was disheveled.
He playfully pushes at his brother to escape the noogie, "Hey, I can't help but notice that awe-struck tone in your voice," he teases. "She must be from Earth Tribe or Water Tribe, then. I must admit, they have some beautiful cats." The tone of his voice seemed to imply that neither really struck his fancy in particular. Perhaps there was another cat that had caught his eye?
Laughing, Seryph let his brother go from his deadly grasp! "Can never overcome my paws, little brother!" Seryph then lovingly headbutted his brother, purring. It was obvious to everyone that the dark somali mix would do anything for his family and protect them no matter the cost. Family is everything. Though the conversation turned back to the cat he was talking about, under his dark fur he felt a bit hot. "She is amazing. What else is there to say? I only admire this cat at how much strength they held on their shoulders." He was trying his best to show that he wasn't so easily falling in love. "Sounds like Earth tribe is my kind of place then. I did get the best looks from dad, after all." Seryph teased his little brother, puffing out his chest while doing so.
Maridiel raised a brow knowingly at his brother. Making up excuses now, was he? No matter; the smaller tom was just grateful to see his brother in lighter spirits. He rolled his eyes and butted his shoulder against Seryph's, crookedly grinning up at him. "Wow, so very modest. I'm sure the she-cats are all over you with that attitude." he teases. "But you know... I can see you in Earth Tribe. You have the sturdiness of a mountain, after all. But I know you're a big softy at heart, so I'm sure the Earth Spirit will take a liking to you quickly."
Raising his brow in interest, Seryph listened to his brother suggesting him to join Earth tribe. Maybe he had a point. "Probably." Looking to the crowd of cats below, in deep thought of being in Earth tribe. Just maybe... The light in the sky was starting to fade away as the day went on. Talking to his brother about many things took away the hours that they didn't even notice was taken from them. "How about we go find ourselves a place to camp?" The dark somali mix stood up, looking to his little brother before he jumped off the rock they were on. Seryph knew a great place to camp that was away from all the noises of the crowd. What else about this place? It reminded him a bit of home on how open the space was, whereas ever night was filled with a beautiful sight of the stars. Maybe the two could share ghost stories like back in the olden days.
