All Above the Sky by alltelleringet All Above the Sky by alltelleringet
This is a project I got the idea for many years ago, I wasn't really sure where to shoot this or even how to do it. But this summer I thought it was time to go through with this project. It's photographed by Sweden's largest lake "Vänern" a late summer evening with heavy rain clouds slowly moving in the horizon as the sun was setting in the west.

I would love to hear your thoughts about it, what does it tell YOU? What is the first and second thing that comes to your mind?

Beautiful concept.  I like to wonder if this is what he expected to see when he went up the ladder.   I like images that play with reality.  This is beautifully done.  I think some people are getting too worked up by the technical stuff though.  The image is beautiful.

Hey! Nice one but it got me a bit confused. Here's what sprung to mind:
First, the legs on the ladder are more in the darkness of the clouds, whereas the dude emerging from the water is better lit by the sunlight. So I feel more reassured by this "emerging out of the water" than "traversing the ceiling".
Climbing the ladder feels like following your curiosity. The strong desire to explore, like when coming across a button with a "do not press" label, that makes you really want to know what would happen if you'd press it.

But what do you find after the climb?
The first feeling for me was one of disappointment. You don't get anywhere, you're still in the same place. Like a cycle. So, what's the point of climbing the ladder in the first place? It feels like the guy is trapped. Not the nicest feeling. Also, he finds himself in the water, so it's pretty much useless and unstable territory that he's in. Not like the New World, for instance.
You could also argue that now, he can see himself climbing, from a distance. So the climbing made him able to see his former self. He isn't exactly in the same place.

So, I feel a bit torn between the two ideas, which seem to be somewhat contradictory. On the one hand, you can't escape, on the other you can get a new perspective. I feel a bit confused, I don't really know which of those ideas to take away.

Great job on a hard work though! If you want to elaborate on the ideas you wanted to convey, please do! It could change my perspective, maybe?

I had an additional realization while having a walk in the city.
The picture gives me an eerie feeling, it makes me uncomfortable, because it suggests displacement, dismemberment. Like a gore movie, but not so explicit so it's in the background of my mind, but it affects my perception.

Hallå! First thought - "Oh, no! Back here again!"
As a photomanip it's brilliantly convincing; the light and color balance are spot on.

Well, that is an interesting image idea :D
Just as Feedback, I do image manipulation too, and lights & shadows are very hard, but if you wanna work on it, the light seems to come from the left, so the man in the water should give a shadow to the right not straight to us.

I made this quick, just as example, I'm not pretty sure, maybe I'm wrong, but I think it should be like this^^.

The shadow you are talking about, actually the mirror effect on the water.

It's interesting for sure. Try doing it on a frozen lake, it certainly makes for challenging conditions.

I've passed by Vänern a few times but sadly had never been able to stop as I was on my way to Gothenburg, or to a Gränna for props. I love Sweden, it quickly became my most favourite place, shame I had to leave.

cool work....the capacity that humans have to perceive or explore beyond the immediate 'reality' in front of our noses!  ..not that I mind at all about running a high quality electric guitar thru a Marshal stack!!
