Time's Uncertain Wing

Description

If you were coming in the fall,
I'd brush the summer by
With half a smile and half a spurn,
As housewives do a fly.

If I could see you in a year,
I'd wind the months in balls,
And put them each in separate drawers,
Until their time befalls.

If only centuries delayed,
I'd count them on my hand,
Subtracting 'til my fingers dropped
Into Van Diemens land.

If certain, when this life was out,
That yours and mine should be,
I'd toss it yonder like a rind,
And taste eternity.

But now, all ignorant of the length
Of time's uncertain wing,
It goads me, like the goblin bee,
That will not state its sting.

~ Emily Dickinson ~

This poem used to be kind of the "theme" of my late husband and I when we were dating. We had a long-distance relationship for two years before getting married, and we never really knew when we'd get a chance to see each other. Interestingly enough, on one visit to his house (actually, it may have been the first time visiting him and his family) his mom pulled out a book of poetry and randomly opened it...right to that poem. Matthew and I were like, "No way!" Anyway. Now this poem kind of reflects my current feeling, that I know I will see him again someday, but I don't know when. And also about my hope...or maybe lack thereof...of meeting someone else. *sigh* Okay, enough of that. On to credits...

I think it took around 6 hours to finish, which is time spent working on and off (includes chasing my children off to bed :D). My original thought was that I'd do this as a series, but it started coming together in my mind more and more as just one picture. So hopefully it isn't too crowded or confusing or anything. Do you think the title fits, or should I change it? Anyone? Also at a loss as to which category it should go under...dark, emotional, conceptual, something else?

Just beautiful. What a great amount of feeling, and story telling. Very touching.
