Do Not Dawdle by allison712 Do Not Dawdle by allison712
His mother always warned him "Son, don't dawdle by the river!" But the urge to play, and then sit, and the lie down and rest by the gently gurgling water on that fateful Summer day was more than he could resist. Awaking only hours later, he found himself slowly being assimilated by the ivy that grew abundantly by the banks of the river...

Um, yeah. I don't know where that came from...sorry

That's some major dawdling. Kudos!

Lol, well the idea was that the ivy grew very quickly, not that he'd been there very long. But thanks :D

:aww: Thanks so much! Most of the time when I create a piece I do have some sort of story running through my head, but I usually just leave it up to the viewer to come up with their own interpretation. For some reason, this time I thought I'd actually try articulating the story, 'cause I know if I came across this piece and someone else had made it, I would be dying to know the story behind it. Anyway, thanks again!

I love the effects on the corner pieces! The thumnail doesn't do it justice! How did you get the pieces to look so good?

Thanks so much! Yeah, those corner pieces were a bit of a bear, let me tell you. I'm not sure I can explain exactly what I did, lol. I came across a tutorial for making a picture look torn, which I used as the basis for the idea. Instead of me trying to explain that, I'll just let you look at the tutorial [link] Let's see. So then with that knowledge in mind, I set about trying to find some stock of paper torn like the way it is in my final picture, with no luck, and I was feeling too lazy to make my own :P So I kind of cheated and found an image by `blackeri which is where I'd kind of gotten the idea from in the first place, and selected all those cracks in photoshop. Then I pasted that selection onto a blank canvas, deleted the image (but maintained the selection), and inverted the selection. So now I had my selection to paste my picture into. After I did that, I changed the color of the background to grey, because it seemed to fit better than white. It still seemed kind of flat, so I used the drop shadow in the blending options, which helped give it a more 3D effect. Hope that wasn't too confusing to follow! And sorry if that's more information than you were looking for, lol.

Ahhh, very nice!!! Interesting look, and I must agree - I see a little of the Alcie In Wonderland look as well.

Have you ever heard of/seen a movie called The 10th Kingdom? That's actually what I was thinking of as I was creating this piece. But I find it interesting that people are seeing Alice in Wonderland in it. The flexibility of interpretation in art is pretty fascinating. Thank you!

Yeah, I was considering putting it in Dark instead of Fantasy...what do you think? I had started playing with this idea a couple days before I posted it, but was having problems with the vines. Then =sheispretty posted those awesomely perfect vines. Made me very happy :D Thank you Sarah
