- 6: Tale of the Enigma -
Designed by prince-corvidae, art by Alkemistry.
Species: "Voidcrossed"
A special type of undead, these creatures are the closest thing to a voidal that one can get while retaining their memories and heartshard. Scholars in Medeas have long attempted such a feat, undertaking rituals to suffuse themselves with void in order to borrow its power and longevity. Some even believe it to be the secret to the ancient Kyne's rumored immortality – but so far no mages have cracked the elusive code: A blood sacrifice given out of love and true loyalty – offered at the right time, to the right voidal.
----
A couple hundred of years ago, a strange story started to be told in the villages surrounding Myrrth. People whispered of a horrifying creature stalking the woods, a monster with a deep hatred for the Capry nobility — one that only harmed the rich who traveled along the forest roads, heading to the capital from their lavish country estates. Others said that the monster didn’t hate the gentry but rather loved them, only tearing them apart when they screamed too much or lashed out in fear. Eventually, a group of adventurers put the tale to rest – returning with a rack of bloody horns.
The tales had long since faded into obscurity, only to resurface in the last fifteen or so years. The culprit of all the fuss and fear, is a jester — or at least dresses like one. The Talon’s Patriarch stumbled among its unmarked grave while fleeing the church’s men, re-awakening the cryptid. It’s said they made a deal that night, with the Talon offering void crystals in exchange for the jester’s protection and cooperation. Now the former court jester spends its days performing around the camp, pestering travelers, and spending time with its new friend – a Vargr who it teaches its strange, bloody magic.
Too bad, that its gnawing hunger has started to return, after finding its old, missing head. For a while, it had blissfully forgotten all that old anger and obsession.

Extra (optional) lore!
All tall-tales and ghost stories have a hint of truth to them, an ember beneath all that smoke.
The tale of the Enigma began with a loyal jester who served his noble master with unwavering loyalty. They’d been childhood friends and the lordling had ignored his servant’s Vargr blood– protecting him from ill rumors growing up. In return, the jester served as his dear friend's eyes and ears — and his knife in the dark. But in the church's infancy -- as war waged between Capry and Vargr, and the great houses jockeyed for power – the jester’s master fell on hard times. He turned to dark, forbidden magics to try and remedy that – summoning a creature from beyond the Verge and trying to bind it to himself. The ritual failed, as they often do, and in the chaos — the jester sacrificed himself, becoming something not quite mortal in the process. The noble desperately tried everything he could to save his friend, no matter the cost.
He struck a bargain with a strange, silver-haired man whose name sounded like a thousand different whispers -- and in turn, the Jester did not lose himself to the void within himself. Instead he adapted, changed.
The noble kept him safe and fed him with the blood of any of those in the great houses who dared try and cross him. And when adventurers finally came to slay the jester and his friend — the jester shed his mortal form and rose anew.
