I always quite thought of Pearl as the thorny stem and Rose as, well, the rose.
One holds, barring the weight of the other while the other blooms and flutters in the wind, enjoying the gentle sunlight and views of the sky while the thorny spine protects it, holds it steady, and stays secluded in the darkness.
But enough poetry, this is a really amazing and emotionally rupturing piece, amazing job!
