Description

It's been five years since I created my realistic version of Starry Night ( see it here: fineartamerica.com/featured/st… )

I figured it was time to do another one!:) I've always been captivated by Wheatfield With Crows since seeing it in Los Angeles many years ago. It's one of those paintings that, if you don't see it in person, you might not think much of it...you might even think it's just a bad painting! I have to say the original is one of the most breathtaking pieces of art I have EVER seen in my life! It was HUGE! It was alive and breathing. I was shocked, blown away, humbled, and truly inspired.

So I hoped to convey some of that here, as well as what Van Gogh himself was trying to communicate through his original painting. There's much speculation as to this being Van Gogh's last painting. Regardless of that truth, he described in a letter to his brother Theo regarding his wheatfield paintings, '[The paintings] depict vast, distended wheatfields under angry skies, and I deliberately tried to express sadness and extreme loneliness in them.'

Like in my Starry Night rendition, I put Vincent himself in this piece. I wanted to show the isolation that he might have experienced, but also the great beauty. I hope you enjoy this and look forward to your comments:)

This was created entirely in Photoshop, using matte painting techniques, incorporating photography, and painting over by hand using many custom brushes.

Thank you for looking!

Wow I gotta say you totally did this image justice. Like, holy crap. Not even mentioning just how hyper-realistic a lot of this painting ends up being, just the sense of movement that mimics the original painting is incredible. And the colors are perfect, too! Absolutely fantastic. :D (Big Grin)
