Reviving the old Throwback Thursday posts!
Metal Gear Solid has always been one of my favourite properties to make micros from. When I first started creating these things, ages ago, I made a ton of MGS characters with crappy use of 2 shades. But I was learning and just focusing on quantity. I wanted to make as many characters as i could. After enough practice I started expanding the shade count, and trying out different shading styles. Around 2009 I came up with using more solid black in my shading, some of which I still like, some look horrible to me now. It gave a distinctive cartoony look which fit some characters more so than others. But, after a while, I wanted to get back to a more traditional micro-look. The 2011 version shows the start of that, but my overall style has become a bit more refined since then, so of course I had to remake him. Good enough for now! We'll see in another 7 years
