Toonland Vol. 1 by alexmax Toonland Vol. 1 by alexmax
I've been sitting on this one for a while. It was near done, except it was missing Ariel and the characters backdrops. I just have not been in a mood to do much, ever since I had to say good-bye to my dog buddy. It's been months since the little guy passed, and I have yet to fully recover. I never had a pet before, because as a little kid I was allergic to dogs and cats.

Anyways other than doing (uninspired) work related crap, that's why I haven't updated the gallery in such a long time.

This time there's no superheroes. Just characters that could, theoretically, live in Toontown (as seen in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?) today. Tried to put my own little spin on each character. In some it's more obvious than in others. These could've been other 7 characters, so many favorites to choose from.

Gir: For some reason he has Iron Man's face.

Ariel: Her torso is too superheroine-y. Added Flounder and Sebastian because it felt like they had to be there. The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite movies. Wish I could explain exactly why. Maybe because it was the first Disney animated event in my lifetime.

Mabel: Not much to say except Gravity Falls is brilliant. Like Ariel, she gets her own animal companion in this one.

Donald Duck: My favorite. Tried to go with the style of the Italian Disney comics, more or less successfully.

Daffy Duck: What is it with ducks?

Abu: Aladdin is easily my 2nd favorite Disney flick. After Beauty and the Beast, which was very girly, and thus not as cool for my kid-self, they released Aladdin which was considerably more boy-friendly, with all the action and a male protagonist. The Genie and the carpet were cool and all, but Abu steals the show, until he is turned into an elephant. The bit when he angrily eats the bread, and later, when she mocks the princess, that's some hilarious animation.

Homer Simpson: I'm one of those old curmudgeons that only likes the first decade of the Simpsons. When people say The Sopranos, The Wire, Seinfeld, Breaking Bad, etc. are the best tv series ever, I believe the Simpsons is better than all those. The first 9 or 10 seasons. In fact, they've been able to coast for some extra +15 years on the strength of those first 10 years. I've tried with the newer stuff, it never makes me laugh. Trying to make Homer Simpson not look like Groening's trademarked style while still keeping him recognizable as Homer is not that easy.

Maybe next time I'll do something with movie characters.

Any comments, welcomed.

Ariel with freckles...interesting choice.  Mind you, ever since J. Scott Campbell started the trend when he first drew Mary Jane Watson with freckles, pretty much every redhead out there has been up for grabs.

Well done, by the way.^_^

Thank you. Big fan of J. Scott Campbell, except when he made Mary Jane look like Lohan, that was short-lived, but not cool. LOL

Thank you for the comment!

Well, Campbell still puts the freckles on MJ.  I actually like it.  Makes her look unique.  A lot of artists, I think, shy away from freckles because they equate it with being unattractive.  But I think Campbell makes it look good.  And I'm a sucker for pretty much anything that's even REMOTELY original.

No problem for the comment.  The pic is very well-drawn.^_^

Cool drawing!!! "Gravity Falls" and "The Simpons" are my top two in this selection.

If you're interested, I did something similar (feedback welcome :)) :

She is from a Disney channel cartoon called Gravity Falls. The show is a sci-fi/mystery/comedy, about a couple of twins that go spend their summer vacation with their great-granduncle, who runs a tourist trap called the Mystery Shack (inspired by real-life's Oregon's Vortex). Right from the get go, the kids discover there is a lot of weird phenomena happening at the Mystery Shack and the near-by town of Gravity Falls.

So far only a season has been aired, but a new season is coming later this year.

I love Ariel's freckles and that's a very interesting interpretation of Homer.

Thanks. I'm still not sure I achieved what I wanted with Homer. I'm kinda proud that the freckles on Ariel are done with a vector brush.
