Corporotopia: BILLS of INTERNET DOOM by alexiuss Corporotopia: BILLS of INTERNET DOOM by alexiuss
2012 is the year of the internet protest!
Corporations and politicians are trying to take control and monitor internet citizens depriving everyone from the free internet with bills like SOPA, ACTA, PROTECT IP, HR 1981 and C-11!

We've already destroyed SOPA.

There are tons of protests in Europe over ACTA!
Help stop ACTA!

If you are Canadian, please help us stop Bill C-11. It's the Canadian version of SOPA!
Write to your representative in Ottawa, there's no postage needed! Demand them to stop Bill C-11!
More about C11: [link]

HR 1981 is a "monitoring" bill that if passes in USA will allow companies to "monitor you" and "save history" of every website you visited when you are online.

The artwork here is a glorious collab with :iconsalvakadragyn:

Reminds The-Necromancer of an album cover for Megadeth. Good concept.
The FCC is going to vote on a bill that WILL compromise and possibly destroy on how we use the internet on the 26th and you can stop it... If you are a citizen of the US then you can go to Mozilla Firefox and put in your email address and state (I faked my address, city, and zip code and they accepted it). It will be send to your Congress official and PLEASE, I beg of you!, spread the word! PLEASE! It is a 300 page bill that won't be released to the public until it is signed.... the only way we know about it is because an FCC member told us so.... We got two days to do this, are you with me and Firefox?

Well as we've seen, this has already happened. How about Seattle, Washington's "wireless mesh system" to spy on every citizen there? Or how about the new TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership) "trade agreement" hmm? I like your art.

This... works.

I've been needing visual metaphors for various aspects of the internet over time (for... something), and this really puts it into perspective!

ACTA is dead, prepare yourself to welcome CETA

Umm...why is everybody destroying the bricks when they know the skeleton is just gonna make more? Why aren't they going after the skeleton?

ACTA crushed by EU parliament, so it seems ACTA was now crushed as well... but there will be more coming, im sure of it, they´ll try and try until we fail to stop them.

Wow, seems you started a war with some of your subscribers... well regardless, this is an excellent picture depicting exactly what is happening. I'm not for piracy, but the thing is we already have very legitimate ways of dealing with it.
There is no need for government or local state to get involved, sending local police and the FBI to go through a thorough investigation of who has property of the image is an absolute waste of tax money and time. we already do that enough, lets not start another waste project please

Thank you =) let's hope that the Bill is stopped, they had a review on the 10th and so far I haven't been able to find anything on the verdict.

Fave because, simply, I agree that these bills are wrong. Here's to hoping that NONE of them pass, nor any future variations of them.

lord, when will it stop?
seriously. i just want the politicians to understand who the bitch is in this relationship. this is how they work. when there's something they want to happen, they'll just keep pushing, slowly chipping away at your will to fight.
"We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force."

"And so fall the mighty
Unto the masses below
A crushing weight
Of those
That think they do rightly

Big brother is watching
Liberty is crying
And a signal is calling

Calling for a revolution of nothing
On a plain
And silence speaks

The silence of a thunderous fury
Enclosed in mouse-clicks
And pounded keys
Falling onto the masses
Light and heavy as the seven seas
And just as deep

This silence
This call
This shriek of defiance
From an alliance
Invisibly forged
By those without faces
In a place with no spaces

Oh, how the mighty have fallen
Awash in the tears
Of sweet liberty
And will burn in the fires
Of unknown furies

But what can one do
What can one mean?
When they cannot act
And cannot be seen?

Nothing, nothing
Not one thing
Nothing, nothing
Not a single thing...

Unless that one
Becomes two
And two becomes few
From few to the many
Here’s what they do

Many in places
On the plain with no faces
Rise up
In the code of their land
In the place with no spaces
And they call

They call alliance to liberty
To freedom
To that which hides their faces?
Their names
And the places
Wherein they fight

Fight for the right
And the left
The up and
The down
They fight for the right to be all around

But this fight is all words
No blood on soil
But fought in silent shrieks
And muted turmoil

Some assume there is no weight to words softly spoken, in forums where identity is a secret token... But, listen my brothers and sisters, my fellow mouse-clickers-- can you hear the call?
The call of the many and the call of the few.
The screams of life, freedom and liberty...
A call to me and to you.

We fight here, alone in this dark and space less-- yet infinite-- plain. Alone and together-- we're all the same.... We live without faces, in created spaces, and are content to convene in artificial places.... but they will not let us, and hope that we fall... Well, that's no fun at all.

Oh how the mighty are falling
As we keep calling
In this place with no spaces
And no faces at all

But what they don't know,
What they don't see
Is the seeds of resistance have began to grow
With the rage of you and me

So keep up your anger
Keep pounding your keys
We must all work together
And makes sure every government sees

In this plain with no spaces
With our brothers lacking faces
Where there are no races
We will be free."

We will not sit idle.

I know we are not one, we are many. So many, and so different. We will beat out opposition, whatever words or images me must put to it.
We exist in a world where we can converse with someone on the opposite side of the globe if we wish to. We can create using whatever we can get our hands on....
We can share ideas and ideologies with the click of a mouse.
With a flick of the fingers we can explain anything from a dream to whole theories on the universe.... and discuss it with people we would never dream of meeting otherwise....

Whether they think they are doing the best for us... Whether they are doing it out of greed or some attempt to control us...
It is wrong.
It is against the basic liberties presented in the free use of the internet.

These acts will not pass. If they do, the internet community will rebel.

Happy revolution.

Ugh, and here I thought my fellow Canadians were a little more sane than c-11. I think this'll need a few words in on it. *adds to bookmarks*

And the HR 1981 confuses me. I hear in England they have cameras in the streets for monitoring. Makes sense, it's public property so the government has authority there. It's everyone's, so the agreed upon laws are iron there. The USA doesn't, and while I don't know exactly why, I'd figure it's either money or a right to privacy in where one goes and what they do. Also, fair enough.
But monitoring computers and their browser history? That sounds expensive AND privacy destroying. Not to mention, that's a LOT to go through. It wouldn't be a single investment of cameras and a big ass CPU, but hours and hours of manpower and bug fix code (not to mention the likely event of viral attacks). Actually...something like that'd make a good viral hub, or worse.

I once had this crazy idea for fighting piracy, and it does have to do with people not affording, but just wanting their music/movies anyway. What if movie and TV companies did a sort of online stream rental system? Pay a dollar, have access to a streamed movie for 24 hours. Cheap, easy to access, and less overhead in printing and shipping costs. I know it'd probably be expensive to build and probably cost a bit to, but pushing these bills can't be much cheaper and it just a negative press generator. Now, I'm no programmer or business man: I'm a factory worker. Still, if Netflix worked and some TV is streamed for free (save for adds) and it seems to be working.

most of the time I'm tired of hearing about this, but that's because I keep hearing from uneducated people just posting random crap saying stop ACTA and they sign silly internet petitions that no one reads instead of actually researching what the bill does against them or calling their politicians or lobbying and such.
This is an excellent piece of art and you take a good effort to educate the people. Good work.
