Bronze Octopus Front

This is the finished bronze octopus, modeled off the blue ring
octopus, my friend (Isaac Krauss) and I worked on. He came up with the concept and sculpted the body of the octopus and I came in to help with the wax work and welding. The glass tabletop sits level on top of the legs. Welding the legs to hold the glass tabletop was a very rewarding and challenging process. I've certainly improved my TIG welding skills a lot because of my work on this octopus. An interesting thing about this sculpture is that the eyes are hand blown glass. In all the table weighs about 500 lbs which means we have put about $5,000 into building it. We estimate that we put around 1500 man hours into this project. If you are curious the table is still for sale.

If you have an questions about buying the octopus table or requests for photo use please contact Isaac Here:

Gosh, if I had the money.

Glad you like it!
Have you considered donating it an aquarium or sea life preserve?
A piece like this may make a better "Billboard" for your talents, than a one time sale!?
Imagine how many people would marvel at the craftsmanship and how many of those people could be potential clients.
I think it's a marvelous piece.. beautiful.
What's next?... Seahorse End Tables?

Yes that is a good point! We have been trying to do as much but its been a little hard to convince a public place like that to display it. Whats next for me is hopefully getting a job working on high quality museum exhibits and public displays. Someday I want to create a bronze piece that becomes a landmark in a city. Anyway thanks for the tip and the kind words

That is an awesome piece of work.

How much did that cost you to make?
AlexCFriend's avatar
In all $5,000 was spent for the bronze, welding and grinding supplies, and access to the glass blowing facilities.

Damn. Well worth it though.

Are you keeping it or planning to sell it?
AlexCFriend's avatar
We are looking for a buyer. It is going to be a special person or company that is able to buy it but I'm sure they are out there somewhere.
