My Bio

Hello, I'm Alex! I am an artist from Northern Virginia and a sophomore at Georgetown University. My work has been published by BBC News, BBC Books, Penguin Random House UK, and Puffin Books.

I am also the creator of "The Hilltop Show," a student political comedy show at Georgetown, which launched in Fall 2019. From Fall 2018 to Fall 2019, I served as a News Staff Writer and Editorial Political Cartoonist for "The Hoya," the Georgetown University newspaper of record and oldest student publication on campus. I currently serve as a staff artist and writer for the "Georgetown Independent," the university magazine for the arts and culture.

Alex is double majoring in English and Studio Art. She also earned a “5” on her AP Studio Art 2-D Design portfolio as a sophomore and has illustrated three published children's books. She would like to become a filmmaker after graduation.

Alex has played the piano for thirteen years and the cello for eight years. She also enjoys British film and literature, political comedy science fiction, political comedy, media and film critique, creative writing, traveling, and distance running.

Do you do art trades I wonder?

Do you do requests and art trades?
I see that I can learn some things from watching you.

A lot of interesting images on first glance. I'll be diving in to look around.
Oh, thank you very much! I appreciate your kind words. There's six years' worth of material here -- I'll be excited to see your comments!

Also -- I love your dragon paintings. You are just fantastic at painting light and shadow!
Thank you. I have quite a list of artists who's work I look at - from Robert T. McCall to Odd Nerdrum, and I can point to three artists who have greatly influenced how I approach light and shadow in painting. First is Joaquin Sorolla - he was a true master of painting light. Many Years ago, the local art museum was one of the venues for a traveling exhibition of his work. One of the most striking examples of light for me in that show was in looking at the painting "Another Marguerite." When I stood before that painting I felt like there was real light coming in through the windows and falling on the bench.

The second artist is Shigeo Koike who is known by many for his box art for plastic model kits from Hasegawa. Studying his art has given me a clearer understanding of reflected light and how reflected light can be different on an object in flight than on one at rest on the ground. (The higher the altitude, the greater the amount of surface below reflecting light onto the flying object.)

The third artist is the wildlife artist Bob Kuhn. He is the artist I am currently taking inspiration from for my experiments in painting. It is not just light that inspires me in his work. His color choices and his textures grab my attention whenever I look at his work.

Additionally, James Gurney's two books Imaginative Realism, and Color And Light are 'must-haves' for anyone wanting to do fantasy art in a realist style.
Hey hun! I just wanted to say thanks! your Toothless sketch was my first tattoo!

I have to go in for touch ups and to fix the tail but I love it and get so many complements on it! I'm so happy I know the original artist now! <3
