Fairy Pool, Isle of Skye by Alex37 Fairy Pool, Isle of Skye by Alex37
©2008 Alexander Nail. Do not use this image in any fashion without my prior permission

In the Coire na Creiche area of Skye there are a series of waterfallyscoming down from the mountains which have fomed many pools full of azure water, these are referred to by the locals as the "Fairy Pools"

It was overcast most of the time =PastyGuy and I were there but there were a few moments of half sunshine which brought this shot and the one before to life. The colour of the water is quite natural, and it is great to drink and swim in.

We went for a swim just downstream where there was an underwater arch. The water was extremely cold!

Maybe its just me.

Did you go to Loch Coruisk by any chance?

I think skye is one of the best landscapes in the british isles if not the best, i must go there.

Did you just drive around and camp?

Nice shot, Im thinking of going to skye at some point when i have time, it looks beautiful.

If I'm being honest the rocks look quite soft to me?

Thanks, yeah Skye is amazing.

The rocks aren't soft. Were you looking at it at a smaller view?

yeah, it was amazingly colourful, I understand that it is minerals in the water?

It seems you are right. In this Wikipedia article ([link]) it says under one image: "high concentrations of dissolved lime give the water of Havasu Falls a turquoise color."

This is beautiful and totally sums up the atmosphere of the Fairy Pools, I cycled up the hill about 4 years ago to the pools and they were still stunning in the rain.
Very very nice.

To be honest, if I were you I would pick one or at most two of those places. I would have loved an extra week. It takes a while to get to know a place. Costs less too :P

Let me know how you get on :)

This is beautiful :) But I feel like some basic editing would really transform the photograph. I'm not sure if you're a photographer who's mindset is to stick with the photograph taken without any editing, but I pulled this into photoshop and played around with it a bit.

well drop me an email at alex@alexnail.com and I will take a look at what you did. I am an extremely advanced photoshop user, so what you see here is to my personal taste. I am also strongly opposed to what I consider to be the gross misuse of photoshop which is so prevalent amongst this community and leads to the public losing faith in the reality of our art. Nevertheless I would like to see what direction you would take the shot in.
Thanks

Alex

I agree with the gross misuse of photoshop. I'm mostly referring to a little sharpening and some contrast/saturation to sort of make the colors pop a bit, I also tinted the photograph just slightly blue since I found there was a slight yellow cast to it. Just some really basic editing. A really beautiful photo as is though :)
