Gloria Grahame

A commission. I don't usually do commissions of stars, but couldn't really get out of this one. ;)

So this is Gloria Grahame, from a promotional shot for Crossfire. I'm not overly familiar with her work as an actress, because although I like noir films, which she did a lot of, those that she was in haven't really come my way. I have seen a couple of her films, though, including A Woman's Secret. The only stipulation I had with this was that she had to look 'sexy'. Hopefully I chose a picture which fulfilled this, but also adequately represented her. =)

This took quite a while, mainly due to her dress and hair (which has very heavy use of the electric eraser, which was a positive life-saver =D)

Size: 24 x 30cm
Time Taken: Around 30-35 hours, I think.
Materials: 0.5 mechanical pencil with #B lead, #8B solid graphite pencil, plastic, kneadable and electric erasers, cotton buds, tissues and blending stumps. For more on my materials please visit my tutorial: Pencil Portraiture- Materials

Enjoy! =D

Wow, this is a great portrait of her!

I know her best as Ado Annie from the musical "Oklahoma!"...she was hilarious in that movie.

Keep up the great work!!

Oh and P.S. that Doctor Macro website is amazing! :D

Thankyou! =)

Oddly enough (considering my love of musicals) I've never managed to see the entirety of Oklahoma ;) So I'm more familiar with her noir stuff, which is of course not the place for people to be hilarious. =P

I shall!

And yes, wonderful, isn't it? =D

Haha, well, Oklahoma is definitely corny, and there are some really strange scenes, but overall it's must-see movie, I think. The musical numbers are really fun. And I think you'd get a kick out of how wild Gloria Grahame's character is. :P

I have seen two stage productions, so I'm familiar with the character of Ado Annie, at least. But I've only ever managed to catch the last half hour of the film version, unfortunately, and that was years and years ago. =( I would have hired it by now, if it was in our hire place, but (true to form =P) it isn't. Ah well, one day!
