2016 Christmas Card 1 by Alene 2016 Christmas Card 1 by Alene
Here's one of the designs for the Christmas cards we sent out this year. I'm really pleased with my 2016 set!
In person, the halo behind her head is gilded with Cosmic Shimmer Gilding Flakes. The effect is amazing! Head over to my blog post where I have videos about this plus photos and progress gifs. All the good stuff!

Time Taken: About 10 hours
Media: Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 on a Wacom Cintiq Companion 2
References: My own, plus a free glitter texture for the dots and halo-before-gilding. I used Kyle T Webster's Photoshop brushes, mainly Perfect Pencil and Big Soft Spongy.

Enjoy! :D

This is really lovely!  The circles in the background look like bits of mosaic tile and I love the shimmer-- what a great effect!

Thanks so much! I really had a lot of fun working on these (and a good thing I did them early, as I've been flat out - as evidenced by my slow reply to your lovely comment!). I wanted to use a glittery texture in the background, because I did not want to apply shimmery gilding to everywhere (I have my sanity to maintain) but I wanted an overall sumptuous effect. I love the way you can use textures in Photoshop!

I really enjoy the contrast between the textured, golden background and the character. It looks like an icon... And it makes me want to paint Christmas cards too, but I'm afraid I'm too late for that ^^

Thank you so much! I was definitely inspired by icons when I created these cards - when I found the gilding flakes that I used on the printed cards, I just knew they were crying out to be on cards inspired by icons and Klimt.
Haha, I actually start our Christmas cards months ahead. In this case I think I had them done, printed and delivered (to us, not written in) by October. I never know how busy I will be close to Christmas, so if I have time, I get started! =D
Thanks for the :+fav: too!
