A Tribute to Heath

This is just my small way of paying tribute to a young actor that I admired.

Like a lot of people I was shocked and saddened to hear of the death of the Australian actor Heath Ledger yesterday. At only 28 years old he was a young actor that was just starting to find his stride and show his true abilities as a screen actor. His death is a real lose to the movie world and he will be sorely missed.

I may not have been his biggest fan but I always enjoyed seeing him on-screen, even in his smaller, lesser known parts, such as 2002’s “The Four Feathers”. There was a spark and energy about him that always made his performances engaging and fun to watch. It was after 2005’s blockbuster “Brokeback Mountain” however that he really showed his true colours. He showed that he could act with passion, subtlety, and above all, with heart, and from then on it was obvious that this was a man who had a great future ahead of him. His fame and popularity has been growing ever since, which of course makes his death even more tragic.

Whether it was suicide or simply a tragic accident, it doesn’t really matter now; the fact is his death is a terrible waste of young life and talent, and as a movie fan I for one will miss his on-screen presents.

Rest in Peace, Heath.

He was such a great actor and he had so much potential. He was loved here in Australia and in my house. We were in mourning forever. Such a great loss.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. It was very sad, especially as he was just starting to develop and find his stride as an actor. Such a nice guy too. Very popular in this house as well. He will be greatly missed.

[link] Alexandra has done it the day we found out about his death. Very much loved in our house, as you can see.

Thanks for the watch. I am not sure it is worth your while, but I am honoured anyway :D

He was a great bloke, that's for sure. He'll be missed.

To address your point, I didn't forget to add the Joker, I simply made a conscious decision not to include a picture of that character. Let me explain: if you look around dA (and pretty much anywhere else for that matter) whenever Heath is mentioned or any tribute is paid to him, his role as the Joker is almost always given centre stage. That is completely understandable of course; not only was it one of his last roles, it was also one of his best (I don't want it to seem like I dislike him in that role, or the film in general, because I really don't), but so often with these things it seems to be the ONLY role he is being remembered for. It seems like when people talk about him now the only thing they talk about is how good he was as the Joker, which to me is rather sad. Simply remembering an actor because of one role, regardless of how good it was, is not the proper way to remember them in my opinion, especially someone with such an interesting filmography as Heath.

In the end, I decided not to include the Joker in this tribute to try and get people to remember Heath as an actor and, more importantly, as a person, not just as a character in a movie. To me, that seems like a much better and far more respectful way to pay tribute to a young man who's life was cut tragically short.

I hope that clears things up. :)

It's sad when the world loses someone that so many admire.

Even though he's dead, I hope he gets that Oscar... He deserves it, either way.

It was a very sad day. He had such a bright future ahead of him. :(

Because I've only just got back from holiday I haven't actually had a chance to see the Dark Knight! Terrible I know but hopefully it will be righted soon. I've certainly heard a lot of Oscar buzz around Heath's performance though. It will be interesting to see if he is awarded the Oscar posthumously. It wouldn't be the first time that's happened.

Heath was an amazing talent =( Though I did not really follow his career path... to hear of his passing at such a young age of 28 is a huge loss =/ He would be remembered as one of the greatest actors in the film industry. May his legend live on!!

It was terribly sad to hear of his passing. He will be sorely missed in the film-world, but to leave behind such a young daughter as well is just tragic. R.I.P Heath.

I was so sad when I heard the news. Especially since I had just seen Brokeback Mountain the week before. It still remains one of my favourite movies of all time. Alas, I have not seen any of his other movies, but I plan on seeing The Dark Knight as soon as it comes out.

It was a desperately sad event. I agree, Brokeback Mountain is an extremely good film and in that more than anything else Heath really showed his potential as a great up-and-coming actor. He had a really bright future ahead of him which just makes his passing all the more tragic. I too am looking forward to the Dark Knight and I would highly recommend seeing some of his early work. Knights Tales is a personal favourite of mine (mainly because it's so silly) and The Four Feathers is certainly worth a look if you want something more serious. Heath gave great performances in both at any rate and both are fine movies. R.I.P good sir. :salute:

P.S. Sorry for the late reply.
