Description
Hykuja, a Bird Wyvern. A common insectivore, Hykuja are highly specialized to the point of outcompeting Barroth in the archipelago. Rather than Barroth's method of simply smashing insect mounds, they use their large claws to break into them before using their long tongue to lap up the insects within. If the insects within are too dangerous to eat easily, they can breath a stream of poisonous cyanide-based poison to kill them before consumption. While their long prehensile tongue is useful for predating insects, it can also be used as a whip or spear against attackers. Furthermore, the quills covering their body are venomous and allow them to fend off larger monsters.
Ceretodan, a Herbivore. Found throughout the archipelago, Ceretodan are one of the few Herbivores to make use of elemental abilities. Capable of expelling bursts of flammable gas, they can then ignite it with a bioelectric spark to generate a stream of fire. When alone, this is especially effective against weaker monsters like Cryodrome, but they must rely on herds to defend against stronger monsters like Komodius. Despite other Herbivores being more specialized, Ceretodan have survived through their defenses and by evolving to ingest minerals in addition to plant matter.
Dolcecanth, a Leviathan. Considered one of the most dangerous marine predators, Dolcacanth use their swift speed and tooth whorls to predate monsters of various sizes. Individually, they prefer to hunt smaller monsters like Igalalite and Elasmioth, but they will occasionally group up in pods of up to five members to hunt larger monsters like the Elder Dragon-level Ceitolivis. While they possess sturdy armor to defend against both larger monsters and each other, it is lightweight and can be shifted to allow better flexibility. While not as powerful or majestic as Lagiacrus, their pack-hunting allows them to carve out their own niche.
Vitaraptryx and Vitaraptryx Queen, Neopterons. Living in hives of over a hundred individuals, Vitaraptryx are widely known to be among the most dangerous Neopterons. While very fast and deadly with their scythe-like claws, this is not what makes them so infamous. To keep prey still, they will spit a stream of a purple liquid that quickly hardens in contact with air, immobilizing their target in a crystalline substance. They will then stab their prey with their stinger to absorb its energy, draining it of its lifeforce until satisfied, after which they will return to the hive to deposit the energy to their queen. Among the largest of the Neopterons, on par with the Seltas Queen, the Vitaraptryx Queen is one of the most feared monsters in the archipelago. While she rarely fights unless necessary, her scythe-like claws can cleave trees in two and her massive stinger can drain large monsters of energy in under a minute. While she lacks the purple liquid of her underlings, she can expel electricity from her claws to strengthen her attacks and can fly fast enough to leave afterimages as she moves. By vibrating her wings almost faster than visible to the human eye, she can generate hurricane-force winds that can repel projectiles and send attackers tumbling. She commands her swarm through pheromones, using them to gather energy for her rather than hunting on her own, which is what allowed her to grow to such sizes.
Midorihahn and Midew, Amphibians. Living in swampy areas, Midorihahn are among the most poisonous of all monsters. Nearly everything in their biology, from their skin to their blood, is deathly toxic to most organisms. Only monsters with extremely strong resistances to poison can even predate them. Possessing several barbels around their mouth, they can detect vibrations through the mud they reside in, allowing them to sense approaching prey more easily. They feed on anything small enough to be swallowed whole and will avoid anything larger than themselves. The vent-like protrusions on their sides and arms expel poisonous gasses that can repel predators and they can expel this smog with enough force to propel themselves a considerable distance, a tactic they use when lunging at prey. They posses venomous barbs on their tails and, while most of their skin is poisonous, they have a soft underbelly that is rather unprotected. Their blood, in addition to being poisonous, is surprisingly acidic, capable of weakening a hunter's armor. When young, they are known as Midew and are much more cowardly. While still poisonous, they would much rather hide in mud than confront anything. As of yet, the reason for the bizarre vertical eyes the two possess is unknown.
Kamicruora, a ???. A recently found organism, Kamicruora is a giant monster that resembles an aquatic Brute Wyvern of gigantic proportions. It was discovered when massive plumes of smoke began erupting from the ocean, which were originally thought to be from undersea volcanoes before a ship sent to investigate one was attacked by the Kamicruora. Interestingly, it is capable of using its limbs to traverse land, though not especialy quickly. However, its most intriguing ability is its blood. Like the Midorihahn, its blood is extremely dangerous, but due to heat rather than toxicity. In addition to passively secreting it from its gills, it can vomit large amounts of its boiling-hot blood to fend off attackers. Being a juvenile, it has hunger on par with a Deviljho, desperately seeking out food to maintain its growth. The only one fought escaped capture and later metamorphosed into its adult stage.
Hakaimata-Shin, an Elder Dragon. The adult stage of Kamicruora, Hakaimata-Shin is among the most brutal Elder Dragons in combat. While its blood is still as boiling-hot as its juvenile stage, it relies primarily on its usage of the dragon element when fighting. It can release beams of dragon element from its mouth, dorsal plates, and the strange protrusion on its tail. This strange structure, possessing four flaps akin to a mouth and four eyes, is believed to house a primitive brain of its own in addition to serving as an outlet for the monster's stores of dragon element. Akin to a nuclear reactor, it generates immense amounts of this dragon element, which requires it to vent off excess energy. In addition to beams, it can release a roar laced with the dragon element, emit a shockwave-like pulse of it that disrupts elemental attacks, and can even empower its powerful forelimbs with it to greatly empower its punches. The strange axehead-shaped protrusion on its chest is believed to be for display between individuals, as well as protecting its internal dragon element-producing organ. Study of its tissue shows that its skin is highly adaptive, allowing it to develop resistances against certain weapon types or immunities to elements and ailments.
