Description
Hibirofezu, a Snake Wyvern. One of the Four Divine Monsters, Hibirofezu are unique amongst their kin for possessing brightly colored feathers akin to those of Bird Wyverns, as well as being one of only a few Snake Wyverns capable of flight. Able to stay aloft due to their unique feathers catching the updrafts for their coastal homes, they seemingly float over the waters surface, catching any prey near the surface or on the shore. While not venomous, they can use constriction to kill their prey. Additionally, their large head crest can generate a freezing vapor, which they use to immobilize prey as they constrict it. This vapor can be released multiple ways, either from the crest itself, their mouth, or their scaly underbelly. They're very intelligent and are believed in local myths to have given humans the gift of creativity, bestowing them with one of their rainbow feathers as a gift to spark the humans' creative mind. In truth, these feathers are actually pale green and red in color, only appearing to shimmer their iconic rainbow color due to being very iridescent.
Manichidori, a Bird Wyvern. One of the Four Divine Monsters, Manichidori are among the largest Bird Wyverns, despite rarely ever hunting pry of similar sizes. Much like Crimson Pukei-Pukei, by feeding primarily on Blastberries and the nectar of Thoros Flowers with their long beaks, they have the ability to store the flammable fluids of their foods in a throat pouch. They can then release this liquid as powerful streams of fire from their mouth. Unlike Crimosn Pukei-Pukei's, however, their fire is combined with a mucus synthesized in their own bodies, making it difficult to remove or extinguish and even letting it burn on water. Apart from their fire, they can also use their whip-like tail as a weapon, severely lashing any attackers with the triple rows of spikes lining its length. Additionally, they can further empower their tail attacks by coating it with the aforementioned flames, burning and lacerating foes while their flameproof hide protects themselves from their own flames.
Hagetomoa, a Fanged Wyvern. One of the Four Divine Monsters, Hagetomoa have a rather intimidating title of the Flayed Lord Wyvern, but this is merely due to a myth regarding them. In truth, the "flayed" title is due to them wearing their previously shed hides as protection, the normally reddish-brown scales turning a rusty gold color with age. This appearance and coloration gives the impression of flesh being covered by previously removed skin, hence the title. In actuality, they are good for the environment, as any hide that falls off due to wear nourishes plants wherever it falls. The plants are further aided by their electrical abilities, capable of generating massive electrical charges due to the multiple layers of metal-infused scales. In addition to making them almost untouched by predators, the electricity also stimulates the growth of plants and fungi, further benefitting the environment around them. Despite this, many still find them unnerving due to their grizzly appearance and jerky movements, akin to those of lizards like chameleons.
Kitsuemira, a Fanged Beast. One of the Four Divine Monsters, Kitsuemira are considered the bad omens, believed by locals to be the cause of eclipses. Stalking water-rich areas, they are adept swimmers for Fanged Beasts, moving just as seamlessly underwater as on land. Much like jaguars, they hunt prey by ambush and kill it with a bite to the skull with their powerful jaws. Being nocturnal, they use their spotted black fur to remain undetected as they stalk prey. Furthermore, they can release large clouds of mist from their mouths to conceal their presence, hence their title of Smoking Jaguar Beast. While they hunt with their jaws, they clash with one another using their tails, which possess rows of serrated blades along their sides, much like a macuahuitl. These often leave severe wounds whenever they clash, making for deadly weapons against both other members of their species and any predator foolish enough to attack them.
Omnochipactl, an Elder Dragon. Among the largest Elder Dragons of the Cailleach Islands, Omnochipactl is a primeval beast of mythical proportions. Large enough to engulf entire ships within its maw, its sheer physical might dwarfs those of other top-tier monsters, enabling it to overpower and consume any other monster in its ecosystem. Instead of wings, it possesses six powerful limbs that it uses to move through both water and land. Utilizing the Dragon Element in its roar and bite, it can stun opponents before tearing into them. Due to its massive size and production of Dragon Element, it requires a lot of food, much like a massively oversized Deviljho. To accomplish this, it possesses a large mouth filled with several rows of teeth, ideal for ensnaring prey. These teeth can move in a conveyer-like fashion to pull prey deeper into its tooth-lined throat, preventing escape. Additionally, it possesses many filtration orifices in the various slits between the nigh-indestructible scales covering its body, which filter organic matter via a structure analogous to baleen as it moves through the water and transports it to its digestive track. In ancient myths, it is said to have been the first being in the world from which the Four Divine Monsters were created, dwelling within the primordial sea that covered the world. It is said that it would devour anything that was created and it took the combined might of all four monsters just to seal it away in order to protect the world from its hunger and allow life to prosper.
Sediarachu, a Temnoceran. Ambush predators by nature, Sediarachu wait beneath the surface of the dirt for prey to come near before attacking. They use a snake-shaped lure at the end of their abdomen to attract prey, sticking it above the surface and moving it in such a way that resembles a thrashing snake. This attracts other predators, which the approach and are ambushed in turn. They will use a paralytic venom to keep prey from escaping before dragging them into underground nests, where they will then consume them at leisure. They use vibrations to determine if the approaching creature is small enough to feasibly overpower or too big to risk, in which case they will retreat fully underground. However, flying monsters make no such vibrations and are thus able to snatch them from the ground before they even realize it.
Kyokessho, a Brute Wyvern. One of the apex predators of the volcanic Fuegold Island, Kyokessho stalk the aboveground regions of the island for prey. Despite this, they make their homes in the lava caverns belowground, using powerful forelimbs to dig out burrows in heat-softened rock. Their obsidian-colored scales are durable and offer protection against the intense heats of their magma-filled homes. Due to regularly consuming mineral-laden prey, they possess large numbers of crystals across their bodies, most commonly orange in color. These grow from pores across their hide and composed of excreted toxic minerals from prey and their environment. These crystals can be flung as projectiles and, when struck with sufficient force, they will detonate in a spray of crystalline shrapnel and sulfur-like gas. This gas in capable of burning and suffocating attackers, though the same filtering and excreting system that creates the crystals renders their users immune to such caustic effects. Despite their crystal-laden bodies, they're surprisingly swift and agile, enabling them to outmaneuver and bombard prey and attackers alike.
Pachydokuro, a Brute Wyvern. A common sight in the Ancient Recess, Pachydokuro resemble pachycephalosaurs and Kestodon. Despite this, they're far more powerful and dangerous than their Herbivore lookalikes. When ramming with their domed heads, their specialized vertebrae absorb the kinetic energy with the use of spongy tissue. They can then utilize this stored energy via sacs along their spinal column, discharging the energy into their headbutts for truly devastating impacts. Despite their herbivorous nature, they are very territorial and have also been known to actively scavenge for carcasses, using the same sharp beak used to snip at tough plants to cut through carrion. Additionally, they possess a cluster of short serrated spikes on their tail, which they can rattle as a warning or use as a secondary weapon to swing at predators.
Shisezar, a Fanged Beast. Despite resembling the much older Fanged Beast species, Garukamon, Shisezar are actually a case of convergent evolution. Their hide is nearly impenetrable, deflecting most attacks with its rocky composition. Despite this, they're decently agile as well, often likened to Zinogre in terms of maneuverability. Their main weapons are their saber-like canines, like those of Smilodon. Unlike the bulky gorgonopsid-esque fangs of Garukamon, their fangs are long and narrow, allowing them to puncture deep into flesh at the cost of durability. Due to this, their fangs grow continuously like those of rodents and must be worn down by constant use to remain usable. Their long ears, in addition to the obvious increase in hearing ability, are actually used to attract mates, with those with longer fur tuffs on the ends being considered more attractive.
Komokutusu, a Temnoceran. Residing in the deserts of Arenargon Island, Komokutusu are most notable for their barb-covered abdomen, which resembles a large round cactus. In conjunction with burying themselves underground to protect against the sun, this allows them to effectively camouflage from predators and prey alike. Much like other Temnocerans, they wait beneath the sand for prey to come close before attacking, injecting them with a hemotoxic venom that will eventually cause the prey to bleed to death. They will usually back off after the first bite, usually following the blood trail and letting the prey die on their own. When accosted by predators, they will raise their abdomen and rattle their spines in intimidation, using their broad shield-like forelimbs to defend themselves from any frontal attacks. Additionally, they have the ability to spray an acidic liquid from their mouth, which corrodes armor.
Rhesuraru, a Leviathan. A seldom-seen beast, it's believed that the Rhesuraru are near extinction, with only a few dozen left. Much more basal and ancient than other Leviathans, they're cold-blooded and use the frill-like fin on their head to absorb heat from the sunlight. They hunt in the water, feeding on fish and other sea creatures, either those small enough to be easily eaten or those they can take down with their venomous bite. Despite their primeval nature and rather bland appearance, they possess a remarkable ability in their virulent blood, containing a pathogen known as the Red Plague. Those infected will display heightened aggression, red eyes caused by the hemorrhaging of blood vessels, aversion to water, excessive salivation, and numerous red scab-like sores across their body. The Guild is currently working to find a cure, but the only current method they've found so far is from ingesting the regenerative secretions of the aquatic Elder Dragon known as Zhy Shesha, the Allmother Serpent Dragon.
Kanizendrago, a Carapaceon. A sister species of the smaller Kanizendesu, the Guild originally considered Kanizendesu to be an Elder Dragon before Kanizendesu's discovery caused them to be reclassified as Carapaceons. They bear a striking resemblance to Kanizendesu, albeit much larger and with a longer build, possessing bulkier limbs to support itself. Unlike their relatives, which hunt large prey in swarms, they feed by latching onto deep sea vents with their hooked claws and inhaling the discharge through an Anomalocaris-like mouth. It's believed the chemicals from these vents combine with their "Death's Mist", extremely necrotic aerosolized toxins they share with their relatives, to create a more deadly version that burns with both acidity and heat. Their modified wing-like limbs are used for the same purposes as their sister species, serving as either fins for swimming or structures for various displays. They were once believed to be the adult version of the Kanizendesu and the topic is still heavily debated, but the current consensus is that they're indeed different species, albeit extremely closely related.
Welp, looks like we finally got ourselves one of the 2 or so monsters that is bigger than both Shikamogai and Zeudeus Cthyphulon from earlier, and by a pretty good margin it seems, essentially a true kaiju among monsters. 😉
And I have a good feeling that this other colossal-sized monster could be your absolute biggest of all monsters in Monster Hunter: Odyssey in fact, bigger than even Omnochipactli here. 😀
