For a child to get lost in such a snowy and remote environment… it’s a recipe for trouble, trouble that could easily prove lethal if they aren’t able to find the child before nightfall… or, before something else finds them.
A thin layer of snow had already covered up the older tracks, so forced to rely on their sense of smell… the trio hurry through the tundras, hastily shoving through thick snow in hopes of finding where they could’ve gone. It’s been a couple hours before their disappearance was noticed by the busy villagers, so while not ideal… with this snow, they couldn’t have gotten terribly far.
“So damn reckless,” Adlais growls as she follows after her companions, Khan and Kingfisher, with Khan leading the group due to knowing the area better, “how do they not notice a missing child for hours!?” It’s irresponsible, plain and simple.
King can’t help but agree, “not much we can do about them not noticing…” she’s not thrilled with them, but bitching won’t change anything, “at
With her head ducked low to avoid having snow harshly whipped into her eyes, Adlais stalked through the knee-deep white hell, her gaze squinted and irritated as the wind howls around her, the mountains around them practically funneling these gusts directly into her, and the ones who accompany her.
Khan, a Vayron Adlais has been around before, albeit only temporarily… is ahead of her, and while he’s incredibly hardy when it comes to harsh environments… even he is keeping his head down, his scarves billowing behind him erratically.
Behind the both of them, Kingfisher, a stranger to the duo, but one whose company is not unwelcome, not for a task like this. While King is not from these lands, her thick coat is providing her a sorely needed natural protection… though she’s keeping her cloaks pulled close to her, anyways.
“How much farther do we need to go?” Adlais is asking, rapidly shaking her head to get clumps of snow off of her, “is it even safe for us to be out when the winds like
Trudging through knee-deep water, the trio found themselves deep within the heavily forested swamp. Sunlight can barely filter through the treetops looming above them, sparse light dots the murky water, giving the group some visibility within it… though there’s not much of note.
A small fish. The occasional cluster of tadpoles… nothing out of the ordinary.
Unlike in most areas in Vitalus, there’s hardly any crystals sprouting from the environment around them, with only a few small ones here and there… nothing large enough to provide any substantial light.
They’re an unlikely group.
Draugr is the most mysterious, the gauntly female hardly speaking, and holding a steady air of indifference. The most sound that came from her is the occasional soft rattles of her bone armor clacking about with the sway of her movements.
Pulse is another odd one, rigid and straightforward, it’s easy to tell that she’s not one to skirt details. Her dully colored eyes keenly flit about as they travel
The snowy steppe is quiet, eerily so for the outsiders who found themselves having to travel through it. It’s… incredibly empty. Plains for as far as the eye can see, with dry brown grass poking through a thin layer of snow as winter begins to set in.
It’s a strange environment, one that Adlais and Aneira never planned to find themselves in. Steppes have always been incredibly desolate in Roenden, with only a handful of small villages blotting the territories.
Adlais is grumbling softly as a bitter chill brushes across her face, her head turning to avoid the wind directly, “what a terrible place…” she mumbles, “why would anyone choose to live here?” There’s just nothing here.
Aneira is shooting her a scathing glare, “be polite,” she sternly corrects, and while, truthfully, she’d agree with her… they have a guide, one who happens to be from here.
The large male, Khan, seems to hardly be paying any attention to them, thankfully. He’s indifferent to them, honestly, having never been
Quietly trotting along the Roenden tundra, Yosuke kept her head low to the ground, her posture relaxed, but senses focused, as she followed the scent of a herd of ibex. While not prey she would normally bother with… she’s rusty when it comes to hunting animals in this environment, and could use the practice… especially when she plans on taking on some more difficult beasts here.
Following behind her are Adlais and Aneira, she’s worked alongside Aneira before, her being a fellow guildmate, so her company isn’t minded in the slightest. Adlais, however… Yosuke isn’t sure about her, and is keeping her guard up around her.
Adlais is here mostly out of convenience, while she’s capable of hunting on her own… she does prefer to have a bit of company, mostly as a precaution. To be injured on a hunt all the way out here? It’s not ideal.
Being sure to carefully use the footprints Yosuke and Aneira are leaving in the snow to minimize sound, Adlais is taking up the rear, keeping an eye on their
Hunched over his desk, Zephyr flipped through his journal, pale gaze slowly roaming over his notes of various fauna, both local, and from far away. Many of these plants are ones he’s collected and grown on his own, cultivating them in his greenhouse for convenience. Traveling to another continent just for some rare flower… no thanks, he’d rather grab some seeds and bring them with him.
To create different salves and potions… his own recipes… it requires a lot of trial and error, a lot of it fails, and while it can be frustrating at times, that’s just how it goes with this profession. Usually he does these things on his own, but for once, he has company.
Lounging nearby, Omari is settled on the rug, going over her own research and sorting through different ingredients, mentally evaluating each one to decide if she’d like to try experimenting with them or not. If this ingredient would go with this one… if that would cause an explosive reaction… so on and so forth.
Zephyr’s always
