The Forgotten Captives by Akril15 The Forgotten Captives by Akril15
I recently started rereading the King’s Quest Companion (skipping most of the in-between sections…for some reason, those tend to rub me the wrong way), one game novelization per night. Strangely, every night after I finished reading and was trying to sleep, I would get an idea for a piece of fan fiction with a connection to the content of the chapter I read. After the KQ1 novelization, I got an idea for a story with Rosella and Edgar talking atop a low tower of Castle Daventry, teasing the moat gators; after the KQ2 novelization I got what I thought was a brilliant story that tied a lot of the random, nonsensical elements of KQ2 together in a logical way. This second idea was so good that I didn’t read the KQ3 novelization the night after that (which is just as well, because just the same, I got a fan comic idea featuring a certain scarf and a lake monster with a thick Scottish accent that is probably capable of causing severe brain damage) so I could get that idea typed out.

In short, I cooked up a short story that sheds a new light on many of the elements of KQ2 without seriously distorting the plot. There are still some loose ends, but hey, what’s life without a few unsolved mysteries? Anyway, the graphic above is a promo image for the story, and the story itself is here: [link]

The story answers pretty much all questions that this picture might inspire.

Hm, nice idea. Background looks too simple... But it's nice, anyway :)

Thanks -- but keep in mind that the island originally looked like this: [link]

So maybe waves on the water or clouds on the sky? :)

I was trying to keep the original look of the game intact. I also wanted to the two people to be the focus of the image, without too much emphasis on the world around them.
