This a beautiful work of art. I am a huge fan of Totoro and this painting is a perfect representation of him. The colors and setting gives it an amazing timeless feeling. My favorite part is the setting. I don't know what I would give to be in a place like that but I would be a great lot. 5 stars all around except for in originality. I deducted one star in that catigory due to the fact that I have seen serveral sleeping Totoro artpeices. Other than that, it is breathtaking! Please make more Studio Ghibli paintings! Thank you!

ok, how do i say this? i love totoro. besides Castle in the Sky, this was the movie that got me into studio ghibli. looking at that animation, i didnt think it could get any better. than i saw this.

Pros:
absolutly beautiful. the characters (i never could figure out what they actually where) are spot on. i love the expression on totoros face, it just couldnt be more perfect. the tiny white things (dont know what to call them) are so cute and silly looking, and the blue one looks... just as expressionless as the movie :3

Cons:
what cons?

overall:
the most perfect painting i have seen in a long time.

I love this piece! The colors are absolutely beautiful, and the way you used the colors make the picture seem timeless. I like the blue trees in the background, the shades of blue make it seem far away. I love how the other little Totoros gather around the big one. It adds a bit of cuteness. I'm looking at this while listening to the Totoro orchestra, and the picture alone brings tears to my eyes. I've seen your time lapse video, and it shocks me how easy you make it look! The only other thing I have to say is that I'm taking away a star for originality because it isn't the only napping Totoro picture. But other than that, it's great! I hope you paint more beautiful things.

This piece really deserves to be loved by many people, I really like it! However, this is my opinion : The characters aren't in any original style and the colors used are common when trying to get a "fresh" feeling. The texture of the fur and of the background makes this very pleasant, though. The characters are a bit too simple looking for how good the coloring is, but the characters are adorable. Also, keep up with this coloring style because many people aren't capable of doing that, and it makes all your pieces look good, especially when trying to Over-do the original factor. The trees in the background that are not the main focus have very good coloring quality to them, too.

Very well done! The mix of blues in the backround make it appear far away. The variety of colors in the bark appears realistic, not too excessive. I like the way you shaped the branches. They unknowingly twist in different, though natural-looking directions. The texture of the leaves give the picture a cozy, full feeling, which adds to the fuzziness of our dear neighbor Tortoro! The addition of the mushrooms shows attention to detail. The little creatures laying on Tortoro add a little simplicity to the picture. Tortoro's paw, which scrunches his face, makes him look cute and innocent! Excellent! He looks like he's concentrating on taking a nap! In conclusion: Well done!

This is very detailed and we can see the strands of fur on them. I love where you put the dark blue to show depth between the strands of fur and make it lead to the coat of fur underneath the first. The creatures look really cute and seem rather fluffy. You put the white shine in all the right places. You reall defined the tree very well and it seems really healthy with its nice brown bark and bright green leaves. I like how you did the claws on the small white creatures, especially on the black claws of the big creature. The blue on the trees makes the scene even brighter as well as the white showing how bright the sky is. Really good work and very well done. Your work always amazes me.

This is an amazing piece of work, i love all the different leaves and tree colors. The fur looks amazing and they all look so cute. I love the detail and i like the blue colors in the trees in the very back.

I love the different textures and ways you have drawn the leaves. I like how you did not take away Totoro character because he usually is always sleeping and i like how you made him all sleepy.

This is a wonderful paintings, its cute, well done and amazingly stunning, you have out done your self. keep up the good work

There's a lot to say about this stunning display you have here. There are many, many aspects that make this art shine. But before I do that, I'm about to point out a very obvious yet insignificant aspect of my critique on you.

First off, I know a lot of artists who would want to bring forth a scene with Totoro and his young ones, along with a sleeping Totoro pose, displaying the sincere emotion between them. That doesn't mean it's completely unoriginal though! Your idea for the background and the scene around him is pretty special in itself, as well as the way you did the forest! But you don't have to regard this too much. The originality isn't the focus or the point to this piece, and I'll tell you the reasons why!

The first thing I noticed in this work of yours was how breathtaking and elegant your style for this is. The way you used watercolours to give texture and definition is truly breathtaking, and also suits the theme very well! I also like how you used more colour for shading, it's slick and quick, and gives a pretty appeal as well as a calming scene! Your attention to the detail is immense and helps to tell a deep story of Totoro and his groupies. I even noticed the mushrooms on the tree! What I also noticed is that the midsize one is a little large. What I see in it is that you wanted to make him larger to give the middle-sized character a chance to show himself off along with Totoro.

The style you used for this piece also attributes to it's meaning. As soon as you see this, you know exactly what it's trying to say; "Totoro and his friends are cute, and are very lax." The bright colours and sun-showered scene give a great relaxing atmosphere, which definitely captures Totoro's personality and the overall scene. It's definitive, direct, and strong-willed all in one.

I love your contrast with the far background and the foreground, using cool colours on warm colours, as well as the colour blends you used with the tree branches and leaves. It adds an otherworldly depth that I simply can't stop looking at. What I also love is that you used paleness a little to express shading, and not too much to be over the top too! Your skill with water colours to create such a dazzling display of eye-catching blends and colours dazzles my mind every time I see this.

Overall, this is an incredible, stunning masterpiece you have here, displaying such a marvellous style to sincerely depict the beauty of the scene before me. Exceptionally high quality work, well done!

First of all, CUTEST THING EVER.

This is an amazing piece of work. I love how you detailed the leaves and Totoro's tail. What really stands out is that you chose blue trees for the background. Why exactly did you choose blue? I love how Totoro has the mini-totos sitting with him. What inspired you to paint this?
I like how, up in the corner, you have that broken branch. That's really cool. For me, paint+details=BRAIN FART. This looks awesome.
The color patterns in the leaves look so unique! I see orange, red, green, brown, yellow, and so much more! This is an amazing piece of work.

The composition of this piece is astounding when you take into consideration the time, effort and skill that went into this water colour painting.

While the subject matter is not your original design, the way in which you chose to depict Totoro in water colour paint is a stroke of genius. The balance and blending of colour suggest a deep understanding of colour theory and how to use water colour paints effectively. I enjoy the magical and bright feeling the colours you chose, suggest.

My only concern is with the size of Totoro in relation to the other forest spirits/mini totoro's. In the film he is depicted as being massive compared to the two young girls in the movie, and those mini totoro's are smaller then the two girls.

Overall the piece is stunning, and I loved that you recorded yourself painting it. Great Job, keep up the great work.

A well balanced composition, I like the blue trees at the back and the blue shade you gave to Totoro as well as the mushrooms, texture and detail given to the bark of the trees.

Of course, this is not super original since it is Totoro, and I'm not sure if the commissioner asked for this pose and and setting, but I feel there are more interesting things Totoro could be doing. For example flying in the air with an umbrella in the night sky would be more exciting, or doing that rain dance.

Or, if Totoro is supposed to be in a homey, relaxed setting, perhaps lounging at the very top of a tree, to give it a more mysterious spin.
However, I realize it may be your intention for just a typical simple, warm and friendly piece without all that mystery.
It's just that I've always viewed Totoro as sort of mysterious, mystical being. I would have also accentuated more on Totoro's size and made the other mini-Totoros (sorry I don't know what they're called) smaller, to emphasize that.

Overall, it's a nice cute and simple piece with bright colours and all together pretty visually appealing.
I was actually pretty surprise you'd request a critique on this, as I've said earlier, this just seemed like a simple piece, and not something you would dwell on for too long. I still like it, it's just not super special. (HOPE WE CAN STILL BE FRIENDS AFTER THIS)
