Man, the emotions Sebastian is going through here...especially in that bottom left panel...you did such a great job showing that.

And I have to say--since I didn't point it out before when Conain was first explaining to Guillaume that the Hospitallers have vampires in their Order--it is really impressive to see such tolerance in the Middle Ages. There is this common assumption that people back then were either cowed, terrified, and superstitious, or they were instead vicious savages who killed anything that looked or acted even slightly different. Hell, there's an assumption that civilization itself stopped completely after the fall of the western Roman Empire and only resumed with the Renaissance.

But people forget that despite the losses of some of the things the Greeks and Romans did, that technology, trade, and so on, DID change and grow (and despite all their bad sides, the Crusades were a part of that), and that there WAS continued philosophical advancement during the Middle Ages. So that makes it really cool to see these characters as fully fleshed-out, and three-dimensional in the way they think and act, capable of adapting to their circumstances.

And I must also mention how much I love the title "Night Brother." It's a euphemism in the literal sense of the word, but I think it's a good and important one because it casts the Night Brothers not as creatures, but as a different sort of kin...a being you can still relate to in some way even though they are not the same as everyone else. That, I think, can have an important influence on how people think of them.
