Thursday Prompt: True Colors

Thu Oct 11, 2018, 12:00 PM by akiestar:iconakiestar:

Hello again, Core Members, and welcome back to another week of the Thursday Prompt!

In last week's challenge, "The Dark Half", we tasked you to combine the spirit of Halloween with the artistic tradition of Inktober by creating your scariest pieces of art using ink and paper. Here are the three deviations that we thought best captured that spooky spirit:

Foxtober day 6 - Ancient Ruins by The-fox-of-wonders    They all come out in the darkness by ELLRarte    Inktober 9 - Katsaridaphobia by TheUnconfidentArtist

Congratulations to The-fox-of-wonders, ELLRarte and TheUnconfidentArtist! Their imaginative pieces have earned them $50 USD in DeviantArt Points and a set of 12 Sakura Pigma Fineliner micron pens each.

This Week's Challenge

This week, we’re opening up the catwalk for your latest fashion creations!

Los Angeles Fashion Week is this week and, as the weather takes a cooler turn and the leaves change color, it got us thinking about hot drinks and our favorite sweaters, coats, and scarves. Design your ideal cozy fall look, from coffee shop couture to leisurewear.

Once you’ve uploaded your deviation to DeviantArt, upload it to the "True Colors" folder in CoreMembers, then post it as a comment to this journal.

  • All works must be original works made specifically for the contest.

  • The deviation can be in any style or design. If you are using works that are not your own, you must make sure you have permission to use those works and credit the artist(s) whose work(s) you've used.

  • Entries that are found to be in violation of the Etiquette Policy will be disqualified and removed.

  • Works must be submitted by Tuesday, October 16 at 11:59 PM PDT (Los Angeles time).

  • You must be a Core Member as of October 10, 2018 to enter.

For the official rules for this week’s Thursday Prompt, click here.

Six winners will be chosen, three each for women’s and men’s fashion. Winners will receive the following:
  • A free three-month extension of their Core Membership

  • A $50 USD gift card from ThinkGeek

Winners will be announced in next week’s contest journal, to be posted on Thursday, October 18, 2018.

Judging Criteria

Entries will be judged based on creativity, originality, and the approach to the prompt. Remember, this is a fashion contest, so we look forward to seeing some stylish deviations!

Have an amazing Thursday, and good luck!

Hey, CoreMembers, and welcome back to another Thursday PromptLove

It's Los Angeles Fashion Week, so as the weather takes a cooler turn and the leaves change color, for this week your task is to design your ideal cozy fall look, from coffee shop couture to leisurewear. Show us how you dress for the fall season and stand to win a three-month Core Membership extension and a $50 gift card from ThinkGeek!

I am excited to see how well you guys dress, especially compared to frumpy, old me. Good luck! ;)

Do they have to be realistic/modern, or can it be medieval/fantasy if its still autumn-themed?

Hi, Silif-is-back! You can design your fall fashion however you like. It can definitely be medieval/fantasy-inspired if that's the direction you want to go. :D

Eclipse Change Log: December 5, 2018

Another week, another change log! Thank you for your continued feedback and bug reports!

Please keep in mind that larger feature requests and issues take additional time to address — but know we are actively working on them. In the meantime, we’ll continue to share these change logs with some of the smaller changes and bug fixes, so that you follow along with the progress of Eclipse.

We’ve also been receiving reports about various issues regarding images, image compression, image URLs, and filenames. DeviantArt recently switched to a new system to serve images and we’re currently looking into the issues that you’ve been reporting.

Change Log

New deviation background presets have been added!GIF avatars are now scaled scaled up properly, preserving their pixelated look without any blurring. Thank you to all those who brought up this issue!Premium Content now has a more prevalent Buy button.Mentions now contain user symbols.Fixed issue where mentions would not work when you simply typed @@username(rather than typing and selecting a username from the list).Thumbnails in Feedback notifications are now clickable.Fixed issue where mentions displayed in green rather than white. The appearance of the search box was fixed when searching from the Notes, Groups, Forums, and various other pages.Prints can now be enabled on new deviations.Fixed issue where, after adding an image or a gallery to a comment, pressing the left or right arrow keys would leave the page rather than move your cursor.Fixed issues where tooltips were cut off behind other elements of the page.Fixed issue where Eclipse would not create URLs properly for Collections with spaces or other non-alphanumeric characters in the title would, causing an error if opened on the old site.Various other smaller bug fixes and visual changes.

Eclipse Change Log: December 12, 2018

This week, nearly the whole DeviantArt team — encompassing staff members from Los Angeles, Tel Aviv, Kiev, and Vancouver, to name a few — has come together at our HQ in Hollywood to focus on Eclipse and plan what’s in store for 2019.

As a reminder, we’re continuing to work on the bigger community feedback concerns — including customization and improvements to Feedback — and we hope to share more soon.

Since the holidays are coming up, and many people on our team are traveling or taking time off, we won’t have a change log to share for a short while. But we want to let you all know that we are continuing to review and analyze your feedback, and we look forward to sharing more updates with you early next year!

Change Log

Literature descriptions are back! (Popular request!)After replying to a comment in Feedback, the notification is now automatically removed. (Popular request!)Comment link pages now have "parent" and "top" buttons, and are now centered for easy readability. (Popular request!)Scraps are back! You can now mention a deviant just by typing (rather than selecting them from the list). The Gift dropdown on profile now tells you when you've already given them a llama or they are full of cake. Removed minimum character count in Status Updates and Journals, allowing deviants to share a post that simply includes a deviation, gallery, or video.

Eclipse Change Log: February 20, 2019In this week's change log, we've updated literature pages — a popular request from the community — as well as a handful of bug fixes and improvements. Stay tuned for more, and keep the bug reports and feature requests coming!Improved Literature Deviation Page DesignAnother popular request from the community was to improve the design of literature deviation pages and put the actual writing front and center. Thanks to @battlefairies, @jcoolarts, @thebigeasy66, @queen-kitty, and the many others who shared their feedback on literature!Try it out: Memories, Light the Corners of our Minds by @srsmithChange LogAbility to submit a Journal to a Group has been added! Click the “New Journal” button on a Group’s Journal tab to submit directly to that Group. You can now edit older literature deviations in Eclipse. (Thanks for pointing out, @dc-26 and @littlekhajiit!)The Daily Deviation page now includes three days by default (instead of two), with a "show more" button at the bottom. While using browse or search, your previously selected sort mode will be preserved when you switch back and forth between Status Updates, Polls, and Commissions. After clicking a deviation from browse or search then clicking the back button, you'll now return to the correct position in the results rather than the beginning. When a deviant gives you Points, the notifications dropdown would display "[deviant] gave you..." without including the amount of Points given.Eclipse journals would be cut off on smaller screens on the old site.Clicking “View Log” on a Group admin notification would link to an error page.On Feedback, the timestamp on comments and replies now links to the comment’s permalink page so you can see the full context of a conversation. When italicizing, bolding, or underlining a heading, the headline would break onto multiple linesTimestamps on Feedback notifications are now clearer. (A notification from 3 months ago now displays as the actual date rather than “3m” which could also be confused as 3 minutes ago.)Daily Deviations page now includes a “Back to Top” button. The account reactivation page (restoring your account after deactivating it) has been moved to Settings rather than your profile page. This fixes an issue were deviants would need to switch back to the old site to reactivate if they deactivated while in Eclipse. This change is now live on the old site as well.Deviation descriptions that were made from the old site now properly preserve formatting on Eclipse.Fixed issue where mature content would be visible in Polls, Status Updates, Drafts and a few other places, even if your mature content filter was on.Fixed issues where font sizes would sometimes be smaller in some comments.Keep Sharing Your Feedback!Submit a bug or feature requestSubmit your overall feedback about DeviantArt Eclipse
What's Next for Eclipse: LiteratureOne of the best things about DeviantArt is the incredible communities that have organically grown and supported one another throughout the site. A community that continues to grow in its artistry and passion is the Literature community. It's been hugely important for us to develop Eclipse with the Literature community in mind, and to shine a spotlight on both the writers and readers. There's still a lot we want to do to expand Literature on DeviantArt, but here are some updates we've made, and will be making, in Eclipse:Literature EditorOur new Literature editor provides an expanded and easier experience. You can now bold, italicize, underline text without HTML knowledge, and you can even add corresponding visual imagery or link YouTube videos. Literature ThumbnailsBased on your feedback, Literature thumbnails now include a preview of text so that deviants can get a sneak peek at what words lie in store! We'll also be further adjusting the look of the thumbnails by dimming the opacity of the letter to make it less distracting. Read more about it in one of our past change logs here.Literature Improvements (Coming Soon!)It is vital for text to be visible above the fold so that your art gets the spotlight it deserves, just like visual deviations. Literature text is fully open to be appreciated as a whole, and we also made sure the actions are visible at both the top and bottom of each Literature deviation. This way some deviants can fave and save for later, while others can read through the deviation, and then fave, comment, share after they've finished. The choice is yours! Thank you to the Literature community for being so open and vigilant with their feedback. We want to keep building and strengthening your Eclipse experience. Upcoming updates will be announced in @danlev weekly change logs as soon as they are live. Share with us in the comments how you'll be writing and/or reading Literature in Eclipse!Got something else on your mind? Eclipse Change Log: May 22, 2019In this week’s change log, tag pages get a brand new look! We’ve also implemented a number of bug fixes and smaller improvements. Stay tuned for more, and keep the bug reports and feature requests coming!Redesigned Tag PagesThe design of tag pages has been uplifted in Eclipse, featuring a cleaner design that puts more emphasis on the art itself.Try it out: #portrait, #sunset, #haiku, #space, #gameofthrones, #btsChange Logs Moving ForwardUp until today, we’ve been releasing updates to Eclipse once a week. Starting today, we are moving to continuous development cycle on Eclipse, meaning we will be releasing changes more frequently throughout the week rather than once a week. The change logs will still be posted once a week, but they will now be a recap of the past week’s changes. Change LogFixed issue where comments would sometimes appear duplicated if you clicked “load more” after new comments were added.Infinite loading now loads more content before you reach the end of the page, making the loading smoother.Fixed issue where you couldn’t edit forum comments from the comment permalink page. When adding deviations to your comment or journal, the search icon now behaves as a submit button.Fixed issue where folders would not tell you when you’ve reached the description character limit.Fixed issues where some galleries would appear as empty in some rare circumstances. (Thanks for reporting, @beavotron)On your own comments, the delete option now appears under the dropdown instead of under the comment.Fixed bug where comment likes would not appear until refreshing the page.Fixed issue where a code name would appear rather than the text “comments are disabled” on deviation pages with disabled comments. Comment count on profile header displayed comments received rather than comments given. (Thanks for pointing out, @rotane)When creating a poll, deleting a poll option would also remove all choices below it.A faint line would sometimes appears under the title of literature and journal thumbs in status updates.Keep Sharing Your Feedback! In addition to these updates and bug fixes are smaller improvements we’ve made as we continue to develop larger features in Eclipse. Follow these steps to share your feedback:Switch to DeviantArt EclipseHover over your avatarSelect “Give Your Feedback” to access our official formHaven’t received access to Eclipse yet? Eclipse Change Log: January 30, 2019In this week's change log, we have a small handful of bug fixes and improvements as we continue with the larger features that are in development. Stay tuned for more, and keep the bug reports and feature requests coming!Change LogThe "add to favorites" panel on deviation pages now allows you to select multiple collections. (Popular request, suggested by @kage-niji, @sa6044, @tanyasimpson, and many others)Bios are now editable!Literature thumbnails now include four lines of preview text. (Suggested by @wynbird, @battlefairies, and many others)On the Daily Deviations page, literature now includes preview text. Various other smaller bug fixes and stability improvementsThe new "add to favorites" panel lets you easily add a deviation to many Collections. (Artwork: hidden view by @umbatman)Literature thumbs — including on the Daily Deviations page — now include preview text.Using the New Bio EditorTry the new Eclipse bio editor! When adding a bio to your Eclipse profile, we'll start you off with your bio from the old site. Please keep in mind that some elements, such as thumbnails, were not able to be transitioned to the new editor, however you can still add them to your bio. We recommend trying the new image and gallery features to share your favorite artwork in your bio. Also note that due to migration issues, bios of deviants who are not on Eclipse are static, meaning if they update them on the old site, the changes will not be reflected on Eclipse until that deviant switches to Eclipse and edits their bio using the new editor.
