Express This! A Poetry Contest
One of the biggest hurdles anyone faces in a creative endeavor is pursuing originality. Being original is a near impossibility with just how much content we consume in our daily lives. From advertising to your favorite children's book, cliches are stuffed into our brains all the time. It's no wonder we'd spit them back out in our own creative process.
This contest aims to help you take an old cliche and give it a pinch of your own original style.
Leave a comment on this journal if you want to participate. I will send you a note with a cliched phrase.
Your job is to express that cliche in an original way. Use sensory details, extended metaphors, or any other tool you can think of. But never tell us what the cliche is! Only the judges should be aware of what the cliche you received was.
