The Gathering Place by akiestar The Gathering Place by akiestar
I was digging through some old photos of mine from a while back when I ran into this.

For years, O'ahu was called "The Gathering Place" because it was the most populated of the Hawaiian islands. But even if it has people, you can still find places to see where it looks like no one's there, and where the land remains untouched.

This photo was taken in 2013 on a flight from Japan to Honolulu -- an instance of pure luck on my way to Portland. Hawaii is stunning from the air, and perhaps one day I'll get to say aloha to this piece of paradise.

Some years back my parents went to Hawaii for a vacation.  Unfortunately they didn't say a whole lot about it other than that it was nice.  The price of traveling regularly, right? :D

That is true. I travel a lot, but often for people who do the same we don't get to appreciate what we see that much because it all looks the same.

It's always better to make a conscious effort to be aware of where you are, than to not be if you ask me. :)

My mom is a travel agent, and when I was younger we traveled all the time.  Looking back and knowing how few Americans have opportunities to travel at all, I can appreciate the hell out of my mom taking us all over the world, though at the time I certainly would have preferred staying home and hanging out with my friends.
There are a lot of places I'd love to be able to go back and visit with my camera because they were such beautiful places.

You're very right though, it's better to make a conscious effort to be aware of where you are.
