Magic dragon pet by ajder Magic dragon pet by ajder
It initially started as a practice work based on Raymond's cube tutorial:

[link]

As such there's no real story to it ( unlike my other works wich usually have an elaborated story behind them ). The dragon character ( called "Draghi", depicted here in hatchling state ) belongs to me and the cube belongs to Raymond. I still didn't quite grasp the concept of secondary lightsources, but this has helped me a lot reguardless. And it's my first troully finished CG work.

Could I make a suggestion for another drawing? It seems that Draghi is the focal point in your drawings, as though he were a mirror that reflects the emotions and feelings of the other characters.

May I recommend you make another version of this drawing, except this time stage it at Christmas. Replace the cube with a wrapped Christmas gift that Jon has just set before Draghi. The point of view is from Jon as he watches Draghi about to open his first Christmas gift. And perhaps have Draghi looking up into the viewer's face (as representing Jon) and reflecting Jon's feelings of love for Draghi.

At first, I didn't read your description before viewing the painting and mistakenly thought this was a Christmas scene where Jon had given Draghi his first Christmas gift, and Draghi is very excited to see what Jon gave him.

Oh well. I still like looking at Draghi's facial expressions, even if he is fascinated by the shiny jewel!

Ok! There is a fe things i must say about this masterpiece. First off, this is what i have been "hopeing" my drawings would turn out like. Second, i have heard that you have taught urself all this time, and i would have to say that this is beyond what others would be able to produce. I have also heard, that you believe that your art isn't very good. But yet, i see talent al over your art, and love them!!!! So it would be pretty hard for you to convice be other wise.
This is spectacular!!!! And must i say, fantastic!!! i promised myself not to grovel but, wow! I wish i could draw like u (promise broken!)!!!! I was also referanced to your art, and i am very much overpleased by this art, and would love to see every ounce of art you can put out!!!!!!!!
Oh, and i can't really find any mistakes for this drawing. I mean, people could say that the candle's light is off, because of the window's light, but they have to remeber that the candle procues a different shade of yellow, so it isperfectly fine!

Well, to be honest I'm not trying to convince people that my art isn't good, that's just my opinion. If you want to see REAL art go visit artists like Ironshod, or RalphHorsley or kerembeyit right here on deviantart.

Thanks for the compliments but I think you are overexagerating.

As for the critick, indeed the candlelight isn't quite right, but then again so is a lot of stuff in my art, wich I'm working and striving to fix with every piece I make, though it's a slow and not very rewarding process.

Oh! I have to take your account on thir art!!! Off to visit their galleries i go!

Overexagerating? Ur so modest =D! i am clearly staing the facts, and idk how many great comments you get a day!! U have alot of experiance, and wihtout any learning from anyoen, which i find so impressive!

I believe its fine, but then again, i don't really know alot of about secondary light sources. Yes true, and you have learned a great deal of it, and i a still trying!! Yeah! Fix? Don't need to huff and puff about your previous work! If you belive that you have failed in anyway, you can always start another, and learn from ur mistakes. But most of the times, i end up ruining my drawing by trying to fix something.

I never "fix" an image, if it's finished it stays that way, and I jsut start anther trying not to repeat the same mistakes in the new one...

I assure u i have difficulties to found fault in your works...

maybe there could be something to review in the lightining, because of the difficulties in putting the right shadows with 2 point of light..

a really well done one indeed!! :D

it was my first "successfull" CG image ( and by that I mean the first that actually got finished ), lighting and the shadows that folow are always a bother to do.

coming from an artist as skilled as you, that is a great compliment.

I finished this just in time becase a day after finishingit, I had my computer infected with a virus and had to reinstall the OS, and I lost every last piece of art I had on my computer inclouding this one, had I not posted it at that time I might have had to start over on it.

SO yea, it was finished just in time.

Aww . . . he's just adorable ^_^

I'm really in no position to critique this, since while you've been rapidly advancing your craft I've been getting ahead in real life---so my own craft hasn't advanced too much. That being said, would you consider strebthening the coloring of the foreground against the background? Again, I'm really in no position to critique here. you have had much training. I have not.

It is nice to look at, and the dust adds an ethereal effect :3

you really are a hard persone to reach. nice to hear from you again.

as for your comment, I'm troully sorry but I have no diea what "strebthening" means, could you please elaborate?

and thanks for stoping by.

I had a typographical error . . . "stebthening" is supposed to be "strengthening".

2006 and 2007 were extremely busy, often frustrating times for me in the real world. However, I worked hard toward saving my marriage, getting out of some serious financial debt . . . and I just got promoted at work again, to "full" Floor supervisor (which means I supervise dealers at the casino, 100% of the time)

One of my goals for 2008 (among many other things) is to get more involved in my creative outlets, since a great deal of stress and uncertainty is now behind me. I apologize for my silence a lot of times, and I hope you will forgive me. While I certainly will still be busy with stuff, do be assured I'll be available a bit more often than in the last few years when I had so many changes happening in my life at a rapid pace.
