Airbrushed Flower by aisemicr Airbrushed Flower by aisemicr
"This is what you find in those company calenders."

This is a Day Lily I did for the county fair, I got a second place ribbon and so did the other two airbrushing things. The people there didn't know what airbrushing is it was so confusing re-explaining it to them. xD I got the reference picture from some calender that came in the mail.

I should note that this was done for 4-H, so I did have an art teacher.

Oh yeah, that's my couch in the background... Please ignore it, when it's in the frame it's too shiny. (Needs to be in frame for fair.) Also, it really is purple to the right. sometimes it looks blue on here. I wish the picture quality was better. xP

(I added my username aty the bottom because I got a bit paranoid. But, now I think it's too prominent. So, I'll find the original and edit it again soon. xP)

Magic! No, just kidding. XD Well, I airbrushed it (but you probably already know this) so, to shorten it up, I drew out the picture of the flower (from a magazine) then I layed some sticky paper over the paper, cut out the shape of the flower and sprayed the background, and then i did the sticky paper thing again but I took off the sticky paper around the 3 background petals, did those, then did the front 3, added some details... and bam! finished! though it took a lot of days... Is that what you were asking? Sorry, I get kinda loopy in the morning. XD The airbrush i used (I borrowed one) was like this one: [link]

Internet. XD

I'm considering e-mailing my art teacher and asking her about some good kinds for me.

I'd say check out Amazon and stuff... Iwata is pretty good, for the airbrush. And you also need a compressor. I think all together those two are like... $300? Not counting supplies? Somewhere around there, for the cheaper (but still good quality) ones.

Are you considering getting into airbrush? ^^

Thank you. I spaced out my work on a few different days (on a few different weeks) which really helped me to take my time and not rush.

Thank you! yeah, I'm happy with how the background turned out. On the original picture is was really complicated with pants but it was still split down the middle like that.

That's... fantastic! I would never have the patience or the skill to do something like that, haha. But you did awesome on that! I'm surprised you only got second place. :O

Thank you! Yeah, at the end I kinda rushed on the pistols. xD Yeah, all the other airbrushing got 2nd place too, for the other people, I really doubt the judges know about airbrushing, I had to keep re-explaining myself.

Yeah, that's the way it is at our county fair too. The judges are all old people, and they never understand what half the art is. xD I think that if you're going to be a judge, you should at least know all about the different kinds of art and all that.

Yeah, same here! Most of them are really old... so they like really traditional stuff, I guess. xP

After making a few trips to art stores, and going in the wrong isles, I think that they sell cases.

Yeah, they have snug cases with this foam like material. I've never seen airbrushing stuff (besides books) at art stores.

I just wonder where I'd put it in my house, there's no where upstairs... I don't think I can in my sister's room, so maybe in the storage room?

Thank you! Yeah, this is my first real "project" I would consider that i did and I can really tell that I've improved. This was my first time using a brush for something (pistil + stigma, and some areas to cover up white) so I want to practice with that some more.
