The first map of Silmarillion

This picture is a 3D interpretation of the first map of the Silmarillion, drawn by J.R.R. Tolkien, published in the fourth volume of The History of Middle-earth (The Shaping of Middle-earth, page 219) by Christopher Tolkien.

The map is centered on the Doriath, the hidden kingdom of Thingol & Melian the Maia. You can see on top Mithrim and Thangorodrim, at left the Faroth and Nargothrond. Some elevation contours are inconsistent in the original map and look awkward in the 3D map.

The image rendering may seem strange. It is because this picture was generated with the free software Scilab (www.scilab.org/fr), which is not a software specially dedicated to 3D.
