LE Stamp - I

For those who might have remembered me when I first arrived here at DA, I was really no different from your average anime fan...

Of course, things change, people change. The anime industry, for lack of better words, changed. I didn't like it, and I think it was roughly when corporations started cutting corners and CG animation became commonplace.

Now we have shows that don't make you think. Most of them, sadly, have little to no meaning behind them and don't teach any real lessons, or morals. Compare that to some cartoons in the 80s that had mature storytelling and... yeah.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUjiXr… Last Exile was possibly the last anime show I truly appreciated before I looked to other mediums for creative inspiration. I remember waiting anxiously for each new DVD volume as pre-orders in a local store, and sometimes impatience got the better of me so badly that I found fansubs of newer episodes leaked beyond Japan before us English speaking folk got to know what was happening. But in the end the show’s finale was rewarding and brought a sense of closure to a story that didn't leave you expecting to see a sequel. Still, like Skies of Arcadia, I didn’t want the story to end, because you grew so attached to the world and its characters that it was hard to say goodbye...

Ironic that this happens with every good story, right? Sometimes having only one season makes one fonder of it all, though, I suppose.

Anyway, if you haven’t seen Last Exile yet, you should.
