i thought that she was homura the WHOLE GODDAMN ANIME oh my god

like with the gears motif, her silhouette and gretchen's making a matching pair, etc. and how cool would it be if the thing homura was fighting against all along was her own despair??? also in one draft her familiars took on the form of mami, sayaka, and kyoko -- aka the people that homura had to eventually desert in order to save madoka. AGH it would've been SO COOL

Well, at least that somewhat explains her obsession with Modaka. Add in the medieval bridal gear, I say you might be right. talk about irony.

Would her real name be Homulilly then?
Hexidextrous Featured By Owner Feb 21, 2013
Yeah, that theory is no more. In fact, SHAFT recently stated that Walpurgis isn't really just one Witch, but multiple Witches merged into one mighty being. That certainly explain why she is so powerful, and why her minions resemble Shadow Maho Shoujos too.

True, but it's possible that one of the witches that formed Walpurgis was Homulilly.

It's a theory anyway.

people say walpurgis night is homura's witch form. walpurgis night is homuras witch form from the future, which means it traveled back in time, so that means its impossible for homura to defeat walpurgis night because its herself
MiserablePessimist Featured By Owner Nov 25, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
Wasn't that theory destroyed by Homulilly?
PockyPikachuCookie Featured By Owner Nov 25, 2012  Student Interface Designer
I dunno. XD

Looks awesome.

I's a shame though that the theory's been jossed. [link] Apparently Homura's witch is called Homulilly (Bwahaha "Homu".... Epic!).

Then again, Homulilly COULD be the base to what eventually became the Walmart Night we all know and love....

Awesome picture anyway. *instant fav*

I think this would have been a good twist to the story
Elizabethsailor7 Featured By Owner Mar 28, 2012  Student General Artist
It most certainly would have. The irony...

Maybe it DID happen in an alternate universe! (Hey, anything is possible if you make a contract with Kyubey.)

Actually, Walpurgisnacht is a type of witch (A cluster of other witches). Some people say that homulily traveled time absorbing the soul of every mahou shoujou she kills, eventually evolving into a Walpurgisnacht.

I do like this theory (and the picture, too! Kudos!), though given what was said by Urobuchi Gen about Walpurgisnacht (that it is a combined being composed of many witches), I think that Homura's witch form is the set of gears emerging from Walpurgisnacht's torso. My secondary theory is that Walpurgisnacht was the being that introduced the Incubators to emotions being converted into energy, thus setting them off on the path that would lead them to harvesting human emotions to feed back into the universe to turn back entropy. It was something I thought of that would play ironically off of Homura's resentment of Kyubey and his ilk.

Yeah, Walpurgis is sort of the paradoxal counterpart of Homura.

In my opinion it happened when Homura overexerted herself trying to eliminate every magical girl that would become Walpurgis. As she became insane dropping all hope of saving Madoka through fighting and instead seeking a temporal rampage to turn the history of civilization into a play to save her love Homura turned into the core witch of the beast.

Basically when she became a witch Homura's grief seed fell into the time vortex and ended up at the beggining of the human History reemerging from time to time as the most powerful magical girls of history were dragged into her despair to serve as clowns to her miserable fate.

How can she exhist even before Homura contracted? We are talking about time travel and as I said that witch is a one of a kind paradox.

Since Walpurgis Night Grief Seed is lost somewhere in the stream of time back to a point before Homura was even born one can argue that she became the very facet of the witch system, the History of Humanity is trapped under her titanic loop as she moves the destiny of the Puellae Magi towards Madoka.

o.o actually, it never struck me before, but it makes sense. With how many times she's looped, Homura has amassed a lot of power. On top of that, with her ability to travel time... as a witch, it would make sense for her to just suddenly appear whenever she wants. Not to mention, I completely forgot that Walpurgis floats on top of a giant cogwheel o.o
