The Storm Rider's Descent

The howling winds above the Cerulean Straits carried more than salt spray and storm clouds—they carried the thunder of massive wings cutting through the tempest. Kael gripped the scaled ridges of his dragon companion, Thalorin, as they plunged through the roiling darkness toward the enemy fleet below.

For three moons, the Black Tide raiders had terrorized the coastal villages, their obsidian ships appearing like phantoms from the storm-shrouded horizon. No vessel could match their speed, no army could reach them across the treacherous waters. But they had not counted on the last of the Storm Riders.

Thalorin's azure hide gleamed with moisture as lightning split the sky around them. The great dragon's eyes burned like sapphires in the gloom, ancient intelligence gleaming within their depths. Between rider and mount flowed a bond forged in the sky-cities of old, when dragons and humans soared as one against the darkness.

"There," Kael shouted above the wind, pointing toward the largest of the black vessels. "The flagship bears the crimson banner of their war-chief."

The dragon's powerful wings adjusted their descent, angling toward their target with predatory grace. Kael drew his bow, its string humming with tension despite the howling gale. Each arrow in his quiver had been blessed by the Storm Priests, their silver tips capable of piercing even enchanted armor.

As they dove through the heart of the tempest, Kael felt the familiar surge of battle-fire in his veins. The age of dragons was ending, the old ways fading like morning mist. But today, the skies would remember their fury. Today, the Storm Riders would fly once more into legend.

The first arrow flew true, its silver point finding the enemy captain's heart even as Thalorin's roar shook the very foundations of the storm.
