Are you afraid of the dark? What DOES scare you?

In all honesty I am terrified of mirrors and shots/syringes. Mirrors scare me not because I dislike my looks (sadly is true), but I have an irrational fear of being stuck inside it, soul, not body. I hate looking at photos of me from the same reason. If I know that needle is for me, I shake horribly. For Bloodwork (which I need to do often) I take sedatives beforehand.

Another fear, though rarely experienced is open water. If I can see land, I'm fine. No big deal. I love boats. However was land fades from the horizon I get jittery and sea sick. This happened a few times deep-sea fishing in Florida. Happened every time.

I also refuse to sleep with an open door. Idk where that one came from.

Hmmm, I dunno what I'm afraid of. I guess the only thing I can really think of is that I have a debilitating fear of disappointing people. To the point where sometimes it is hard for me to even attempt something because the idea of failing or not measuring up in someone's eyes can put me in a weepy, anxious state for hours. It's a thing I have only recently become aware of about myself and I am getting better/working on it slowly. But it's definitely still a thing.

But as far as being afraid of a tangible thing....I mean, I guess I would be afraid if I was vulnerable in a dangerous situation. Like, "oh look. I'm out hiking by myself, la la la....that's a bear. That's a bear coming toward me." xD But I don't actively avoid anything that I can think of. Other than awkward dates and creepy stalkers. I try to avoid them.

Not afraid of the dark, or open water, or sleeping with the door open, though i keep it closed in case of a fire, or mirrors. Needles make me uncomfortable but I'm not afraid. I was always the one who volunteered to go first. Get it over and done with. Y'know?

What I am afraid of is if something happened to my younger sisters. I don't want them to hurt :( I'm afraid of what my cousin is becoming, I'm afraid my dad will come back and try to hurt me again, and I'm afraid of growing up and living among the horrible truth of humanity all alone. I dont walk outside alone at night for fear of robbers, rapists, and murderers, and keep 911 pre dialed on my cell phone ready for use at a moment's notice. I NEVER. EVER. EVER. LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT MY PHONE.

Sorry for long reply! OTL buried inbox. I have younger brothers so I can relate. One is military and it worries me a lot to see him leaving the US. ono I wouldn't say I'm afraid to end up alone, the two "sort-of" relationships I had were so suffocating and if that's what relationships are, I never ever want one. XD I don't worry so much about things like robber or rapists or murders. I know it's possible and it happens to people, but having been trained to do so, I am confident I could defend against most cases. Plus I'd never go down without a fight. Being from a military family, giving up and surrendering is not an option.

Irrationally I'd say loud/sudden sounds of any kind, even if I recognize their source or know they're coming.

It makes sense from a really weird instinctual sense, because loud noises used to usually mean storms or animals or other dangers, but then at the same time it makes no sense today because 90% of our world is loud stuff.

I do have to admit that I am terrified of the dark. I guess it's because I'm afraid of things I can't see and in the dark my mind gets over imaginative. -Heavy sigh- and staring at stairwells when at the bottom it's really dark. :U.

I have a bit of a fear for getting illnesses that are avoidable such as heart related problems, or joint issues. Seeing my mom currently with a medical condition makes me really worried about me becoming like that as well, and there are so many things that I really want to do for the future.

Physical conditions just tend to scare me overall.

i LOVE THE DARK. Its quiet at night. No one to hurt me, no one to judge me, no random noises or bright colors to distract me from my thoughts. The silence is a glorious gift and an opportunity to gaze at the stars and watch the night pass by, second, by second, since I am physically incapable of sleeping for any extended length of time.

I'm scared of spiders mainly. I'm also scared of loud noises, especially sudden ones. There's two stories I can tell about that one actually; firstly, there was this one time I was sitting by the window eating lunch, when for some reason this RAF helicopter flew by really close and REALLY low, like it made all the trees outside get blown about it was so low. I don't know why the fuck it did that, but the noise scared the shit out of me, I literally started crying (a bit, anyway)(I don't like the RAF because of things like this XD).
Then the other thing was, I'd been drawing on the floor in the livingroom, and because I'd been drawing in pencil there were loads of bits from having rubbed stuff out, that I'd just brushed onto the floor. Normally I would've just left them there, but there was so much this time that I decided I should clear them up at least a bit. My parents had bought a handheld vacuum cleaner recently, so I thought I'd try out using that. But, when I switched it on to use it, the sound was so much louder than I expected, I dropped it, terrified, before scrabbling to switch off again. But what did I do next? I tried again. For some stupid reason expecting it to be quieter. It wasn't, of course. I kept trying again and again though til I got to the point where I realized, "No. This is terrifying. I can't do this." At that point I had my face on the floor, hands covering my head, nearly sobbing. I don't know WHAT I was thinking trying it so many times. XD like what even

Aaaanyway, that's kinda enough babbling.

Just one more thing I could add is that I don't like large things, like big city buildings, the ocean.. obese people even (sorry obese people). It makes me sorta upset seeing things like that, though I'm not sure it's exactly a fear.

Define obese I guess? I'm not.. well. OBVIOUSLY THAT overweight, but medically according to BMI, I qualify as obese (BMI above 30 I think?) Most of my extra weight is from inflammation though due to my AI disease though. Most people are surprised to learn my actual weight number. XD They think it's too high since most of it is inside my body and it can't be seen easily.

I can understand the noise thing, a friend of mine reacts the same way to thunderstorms.

Yeah, I guess I mean visually obese rather than the actual specific weight. Like, one time in a supermarket I saw a guy who took up almost half of the isle he was in (it feels like more, but I don't know whether my memory's exaggerating it). I had to look away from him.

Ah, I like thunderstorms. I don't tend to get scared of the thunder, unless it's like, REALLY loud. Thunderstorms are just cool. :meow:

I am horribly scared of falling into the sea... mostly because you have no means of escape there if you are on your own and suffocation is not a beautiful way to die... But that's not all there is to it, I feel. Others find these shots of wide underwater scapes of nothingness comforting. Even better if you can hear a distant calling of some whale from somewhere. Not me, I become really angsty whenever I see things like this :O
I've also always been afraid of hights, and that is really like a phobia... Even if there's no rational reason to being afraid, for example if there's a railing or some other kind of barrier that would of course keep me from falling, which I know, I still tend to freak out at these points...

Strangely I'm not afeared of death, I just hate the thought of an ugly death... like drowning, suffocating, burning to death, acid, strangulation, these kinds of horrible things. I don't exactly need to survive, all that I want is going to sleep and... never waking up.

I can understand that to a degree, the touching thing, though it's only if I don't know them. Brushing in a hallway is fine since I know sometimes it isn't avoidable. Abandonment... hm, I haven't really thought about that one. Is it simply anxiety or have you had something happen that caused it?

My abandonment issues come from my family's divorce, and not knowing my biological father. Some bad relationships that ended even more horribly made it worse.

Syringes is a big one for me too. I also have a lot of problems when it comes to speaking with other people, especially over the phone. When the phone rings and I am not prepared, I get sweaty and panic. And having to speak in front of people or having attention of many people? nooope. I also can't be alone in a room with men for reasons, but I'm working on that. So my fears are mostly based on social things.

I had the same thing with the open doors, but my cat cured me haha. He was so sad sleeping alone outside my door. It was very weird at first, but now I sleep with the door open all the time.

Streaming helped me a TON overcome the speaking fear. I used to have that pretty bad but over the years it's faded away for the most part. XD Possibly consider it if it sounds like something you'd like to do. Put yourself on mic and see if people want to talk. I also like recording videos of me drawing just for the practice of being watched, even if I never show it to anyone. XD

The door thing.... well my cats deal with staying inside my room. XD I don't get up to open it.

I've actually streamed two times with mic on already for that reason :D and yeah it's much easier, because it doesn't feel like I'm directly speaking with someone, and It also helps with my english pronunciation. I keep recording my drawings too.. but that's to keep me from procrastinating hehe. xD

Hehe, mine would tear up the whole room if they couldn't get out. :D

Not sure that it's a full-on fear, but I am rather creeped out by scopophobia triggers (if you don't know what it is, please do not look it up - basically, erratic small holes in things). But I have a few theories on why it could be a biologically/evolutionarily sensible thing.
I think along the same line I just don't like tiny spaces (not claustrophobia, I mean like tiny spaces the size of your hand). Not passively, but like... I will not put my hand under furniture or something if I can't see down there. If something rolled under it I will get it out with a broomstick or something lol. You never know if a poisonous spider or something is lurking down there y'know? :b

I agree mirrors are kind of creepy, because sometimes I worry I'll see something creepy in them (mainly in the dark though). Though most of the time I don't really think about it unless I've been watching stuff about ghosts or whatever.

My main fear is really weird and kind of abnormal so I don't really ever say what it is (though I've kind of written about it before ... *cough* Lippies V.3 *cough*) but my other fears are the fear of spiders, puke, mould, and not being able to move. I also really hate unexplained noises they creep the crap out of me.

I have this too! I've seen too many paranormal shows where odd things appear in mirrors. In my experience, the supernatural can manifest itself if the person is.. idk giving it life too much? you know? Like a poltergiest, so I try to not think about it too much. I worry one day I'll make one and those things are heck to get rid of.

Lippies?
I don't recall that convos sorry! ono

Odd noises are scary yes, but most things I attribute to ny cats, the dog, or the house shrinking or expnding with the temperature.

I don't think we every actually talked about it LOL, it's just some really bad fanfiction I wrote a long time ago.

Yeah. I think the worst place for creepy weird noises is my school though, even though it's like brand new. Sometimes the TVs will emit this really weird garbled sound that sounds like it's straight from hell. In grade 9, the PA system would sometimes do it itself. Recently, I keep hearing this high-pitched screeching sound that's like a goat kid. It's really bugging me an no one seems to ever comment on it.
