Ooooh Sci-fi above everything! Im a sci-fi nut, and next to this genre is Fantasy, Romance and some horror :) also, mixing them with other genres only makes things better.

I really enjoy the concept of space travel and discovering new planets along with new species and alien races! Something about human and alien interaction has always been a hit for me. Wether aliens are hostile or friendly, its always an interesting concept. Star wars and star trek are really good candidates, along with mass effect series, Halo series, and a few others hit home. Im not crazy on the mechanical side of sci-fi, like robots and such, despite this, it still somewhat interests me. I just wish there was more variety out there in the medias when it comes down to this genre, because you always see the typical alien horrow flicks along with other films that focus more on robotics and tech, which can become a bit confusing or boring sometimes. Regardless, ive found many good stories and have fallen in love with Sci-fi through the years!

Interesting. I figured Sci-fi and Fantasy would be popular. Romance for me is hit or miss. I don't mind romance on the side, but rarely as a main theme.

Sci-fi is probably one of the few genres in general I cannot stand. XD I have zero interest in space or aliens. ono Never seen any Star Wars or Star Trek, though they don't look interesting at all personally. However I think it's really awesome and respectable they can make such a huge following behind them. Mega respect for that! lol They are doing something right. I dislike movies about robots or mechanical things usually even more, though I have a few I don't mind. XD

How interesting to meet someone with almost the opposite interest as me.

aaa its not for everyone :,P im like...one of the only people in my family who likes it haha,,
its really hard to find a good horror film, most of the time they are either gore fests (which isn't really thrilling but gross) or mediocre and cheesy.
(Not very many people know how to pull it off)
I say sci-fi because some of the best horror-ish films in my opinion are usually fantasy/has monsters and get my heart going. That and if there are monsters i dig looking at their design and animation/props used for it :>
(Examples being: 10 Cloverfield lane, cloverfield, the host, alien, the mist, the crazies, the thing, the blob,(some of the best were older))

I like when several genre are mixed together fantasy/science fiction/mystery for exemple
Romance alone is pretty tasteless for me. But a science fiction world with an action heroine who fell in love for the bad guy and pouf! You just mixe action/drama/romance and science fiction together. Just need dragon to spice it up.  :D
That's just a random idea of course <3

I agree romance alone is hard to deal with. I need something else with it. I'm more of a mystery/crime person.

I personally like fantasy the best, because 'unlike' sci-fi, it can be completely fictional and be literally anything one can think up in regards to world, characters, and nearly everything else. Only historical novels can be as good in my opinion generally, because I like history, like Wilbur Smith's works. Tolkien is the master of modern fantasy. Of course, I'm a huge Star Wars (now mostly the 'uncanonised' sector of novels. DAMN YOU DISNEY!!) fan, maybe even as much as a Tolkien fan. But in many ways Star Wars is more of a 'space fantasy', excluding the technical parts (completely omitted from Disney's junk - I heard a brilliant quote about The Force Awakens that stated that 'it was science fiction without the science'.)

Oh, and the Vampire Hunter D novels are awesome! And that's post-apocalyptic horror fantasy/sci-fi, I guess...

The only issue I have with fantasy is when they BS the way things work calling it "magic". I understand the whole idea of magic is beyond understanding, but at least make it logical in some way I guess?

lol I actually really hate Sci-fi. Very very few Sci-fi movies do anything for me. I'm not into technology either, I just don't care about advanced machines or robots or weapons.. just it doesn't appeal to me in the least. Even IRL I'm not much into technology. XD my phone is like 5-6 years old tiny touch screen like, 8GB little thing. lol I don't even use it for much except the internet and it usually limited to dA, FB and email. Am I weird for not caring about technology? I hear so many people loving it and always being excited about it? Me? I'm happy to do things the long and old fashioned way most times, depends obviously lol. I still even use my phone to -gasp- CALL people. I can text, but I'd rather actually TALK. u_u

I'm not trying to bash it, though I realize it could sound like that. x-x Disney drives me up a wall in a bad way. u_u They used to do so well until that one guy took over a while back.

I've heard lots about VHD, I might look into it. I have one friend always bugging me to read it. XD Though I'm not into Sci-fi.... how sci-fi is it?

Not really sci-fi, but "spoilers", it has (as far as I know - I've only watched the two films and read the first book) a rocket, and cyborg horses and interesting weapons.....so not exactly sci-fi. It's mostly horror in a more non-scary fantasy sort of way, just the way I like it. And a huge part of it is the post-apocalyptic sense and scenario it's all built upon. I like that it combines 'old' and 'new' in that the main character and others have medieval sort of weapons but others have weapon beyond our own era and guns and such. I suppose you don't play computer games...(?), but if you played Fallout (1 and 2 especially) and liked it, you might also like or even love VHD.

I have never played Fallout. The last console I got was a PS2, so anything after that I've never played. I was never allowed PC games as a kid and didn't have time for it in College having to work and go to college full time for the last 6 years. I graduated in 2015 but I've worked 90+ hours a week since graduation, so I don't have time for games. I think the last time I played a game was last March over a year ago and it was for like, 30 minutes. I quit playing because I felt so guilty not working on commissions.  I'm not a fan of apocalyptic stuff either. I was at one point but I feel it's a dead horse beat to death over and over these days. However I'll at least give it a try, I might like it despite all that. XD

Yeah, perhaps it is generally, but I think the Japanese author of VHD has done a brilliant job melding so many different aspects, so it's not only a post-apocalyptic story. It's mostly about hunting and killing monsters and vampires. I think the only character that stays in the story book after book is the main character, who the series is named after.

Sci-fi can blow up your mind. I was not really (and still not completely) into sci-fi before but now i start to like it's possibilities.
I have started with Ray bradburry in Sci-fi, he is a novelist so not too long to read. And i love his Martian chronicles!

It's not that I don't understand what they talk about in Sci-fi. I very much understand it, it's not above my head. It's just... I don't find it interesting. IT doesn't make me want to watch it. XD There are some damn cool ideas in it, just none that I care to spend time reading or watching to learn more about.

I liked Fahrenheit451 but I'm not a fan of much of his other works. He's still an amazing author though.

really? I am not a big fan of it, but it LOOKS awesome. I am not into mechanical things though, so I think that's why. I respect those who can make it and draw it. I certainly can't do all that detail. lol

Originally I'd grown up with the typical sci-fi-fantasy mixes, but the idea of steampunk was always so appealing that when I picked up a book with the genre I was hooked. I doodle the stuff on paper, but I dont think I'd have the patience to draw the detail on a computer, it's just something that looks better in pencil I suppose
I didn't think it'd be as cool as it IS either, the creation of mechanical things through intricate cogs and pipes?? (Casually adores the genre)
I can understand why it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea xD

It honestly worries me a bit. I had hoped the numbers would be higher since Naor is a mystery... Maybe that's why I'm not getting near as much support or views on it as I thought I would.

low-level scifi and heavily regulated, clearly logical fantasy.  Like the magic gotta have concrete rules and not be OP

Yeah, I noticed and I'm glad.

Them plot devices tho in some kinds of magic
"Why isn't anything happening?" "Oh no its because his magic is so powerful!" "BUT THE POWER OF THIS ONE 'MAGIC' IS SUDDENLY ENOUGH TO"
like I'm already two blocks from the bookstore bc I walked away so fast LOL

Peter V. Brett has made the best series I've read so far : The Demon Cycle.
I've also read The Red Rising by Pierce Brown and it's nice.
I'm also a big fan of His Dark Materials of Phil Pullman (there's going to be a TV show about it soon!!!! ) :3
P.S I voted Fantasy. X)

Yeah, I know, I love mystery too, I adore Rob Dyke on YouTube, lol

I think with horror it either messes with personal fears and lingers as a result, or plays to other people's fears but not yours.
I think good horror doesn't have to linger as much as it has to make you think, feelings of dread and powerlessness.
For example, The Mist never gave me nightmares but it is pretty much my all time favourite movie.
