Sorry for the wait. Hopefully it's been worth it? I felt bad taking so long, so to make up for it, I pretty much did a full illustration for you. It took longer than I thought it would in all honesty. I let myself get caught up in colors too long. x-x The whole thing should have only taken me about 15 but was closer to 25. I'll send you the large version to look at all the fun stuff.
But if it makes you happy and you like it, I'm happy!
Thanks for trading!
Altaix species and Kai © Autlaw
It takes time to get better and I've had a lot of time to practice. Just keep practicing and you'll surpass me in no time!
I.. holy freaking kiwis this is marvelous ;_; I already got my breath stopping for a moment when I saw the mention in my inbox of the work in progress of the inking but I think my heart might've skipped a beat when I saw this in my mentions this morning !
I feel incredibly honored that you decided on drawing my a full illustration. And holy crap 25 hours ;o; ?? All that time and effort, for that drawing I only spent 8 hours or so on years ago *happy sobbing* This is more than worth the wait, truly, don't you worry about that I'm dying here because of how breathtaking you made the scenery look and most of all how awesome Kai looks in your drawing style !
But let me break down this comment in parts, since there's so much I want to say ;o;
Like I already mentioned I LOVE YOUR INKING. It's a way of inking I used to play around with as well, especially using the inking for adding shadows, it adds so much more dimension when also using the ink for shading parts and I just love what it does with the contrast between light and dark areas. Haha I can keep on mentioning this because I want you to know that is exactly what I love so much about your way of handling light and shadows (,:
And that background is absolutely gorgeous ! I always loved swamp scenes because they have that mysterious, spooky yet beautiful look to them. I remember getting so caught up in that type of scenery and I still want to draw more swamp sceneries as well sometime around. It is so hard to find good reference or I'm not looking well enough. But you captured the whole atmosphere I always imagined swamp scenes to have The water looks so awesome. I mean.. the way it riplles around his paw and the tree's roots <3... I know exactly how hard it is to paint water, especially when you want it to fit your own style ;^; But here.. it has such a nice hue to it and makes it really stand out as water against all the greenery <3 I think the shade of blue is what I really like about it ;o; That mix between green and blue, you know <3..
And all that detail on the moss and tree ! I simply love how you stylized them and the moss really looks like moss You know, I admire how you have your own way of fitting any kind of environment feature in your style. That consisency, to me that's still hard to do but it is what makes your work so easy to recognize <3 Hah.. I'm blabbering so much.
I've been zooming in and out for while now and I really like how Kai's face is like a ghostly appearance among all the greens, browns and blues ! I always imagined his face to have that ghost-like quality C: That is why I left his face white and his body all black. I might say I also got some inspiration from the voodoo face-paint for his design x3
And look at those pawsies ! I think you're one of the few who really got the Altaix their feet look like they really should ! And I love the shape of his wrist and claws as well here ;-; And those head feathers ! I think you've portrayed him even better than I ever could or have done ;u;
It's like he's traveling through this swamp on his way to find out if there's still someone around of his species. Him growing up in the age of decay of the world with few beautiful places left like the stamp you portrayed here, I could imagine that <3 Or it is a dream of his past, of the few environments still untouched by mankind (:
And last thing I want to mention is that is an amazing perspective ;-; And now I'm trying to imagine how hard a perspective it is to draw as well ! It is like we as the viewers are sitting either on a rock on the waterside or maybe on a thick branch, suddenly seeing Kai appear from the shadows C: I like how the whole perspective is making my go on a train of thoughts of where we as viewers are standing ;o;
THIS WAS SO WORTH THE WAIT DEAR ;-; I don't mind at all, like I said I've kept track of your journals and the hardships you went through, knowing you have had an incredibly busy year. And the fact you decided on drawing me a full illustration makes me more than feel honored and grateful ;-; !
Thank you so much for doing these species so much justice, and also Kainat !
Thanks for your effort and all those hours spent on this amazing part of our trade ;o;...
I live in Florida, so we have plenty of swamps and marshes here as reference. So many photos lol Water is definitely hard to draw, and yet I find myself drawing it often. Swamp water is pretty murky in most places, thus not being able to see much below surface. We have lots of moss here too. Plus there are different kinds.
I got the same ghosty voodoo feel from him too. I am glad you can still feel that from this, that was one of the goals.The feet made me think of bird talons a little. Feathers are one of my fave things ever. Seriously.
-cries- Perspective is hard. i did want it at an odd angle, hoping to set the vieweer to be a bit off balance and uncomfortable looking at him. Like unsure if he is friend or foe.
No problem at all. : D I was happy to put in a bit of extra time, part of my apology i guess. I am glad I could portray them so well! Thanks also for trading with me!
It's so perfect!!! The lighting, background, pose....
Dont even make me start on that lighting here
