Comics - Give me your Qs by Ahkward Comics - Give me your Qs by Ahkward
I've had lots of people ask me about how I make my pages. I'm in the process of making a tutorial, but this will have to do for now until I can get it done. XD  I made this to see what you all have the most questions about and I'll be making a poll later. Give me your questions at the bottom in the comments please! I'll use them when I make the full comic tutorial.

1. The roughs and sketching on the top left is usually the beginning process after the script. I'll make small doodles and sketches on a separate paper to get ideas. This process is called "layouts" or "thumbs". It's basically sketching and brainstorming the way to make your page look good! Always plan the whole page at the same time.

2. This is actually the next step, but I'd already posted it. I take the sketches I did and pencil it. The difference is that the pencils are on the actual comic paper and I neaten them up so that I can ink over top of it. u_u I don't have a big scanner and forgot to scan the whole thing before I inked it. XD  I also plan the speech bubbles here so that I know they look good with the art before I get to inking.

Pencils - Naor Preview by Ahkward

- This is what typical comic paper looks like. Each line has a name and a meaning. ALL ARE IMPORTANT. I'll cover that in the tutorial too.
- The "x" means "fill" or make solid black.
- The top is important. It allows anyone looking to know who, when, which story, which issue/volume, and which page.
- For me, each volume has three chapters, so 2.1 = Issue 2, Chapter 1, Page 3.
- You can detail your pencils or keep them as loose as you want. I keep mine somewhere in the middle.
- Those blue lines are a special shade of blue called "non-photo blue" or "non-copy blue". When scanned in the right settings, it vanishes. :"D I purposely used the wrong/normal/average ones to make sure they appeared for the sake of the tutorial.

3. The inks are on the top right, they are done by hand on paper, then scanned. I Use the levels/adjustment layers to make them black and white. Also, the blue lines, as mentioned before will vanish if you do it correctly. XD All texture so far and white ink on top of black ink is made by hand on paper with ink and other tools I have. ouo

4. Bottom left, I add mostly flats, some basic texture is added (mostly sand stuff). I add in the text balloons so I don't over-detail things that will be just covered up later.

4. I add in tones and shading, I make things darker or brighter as I need to. Clean up, add details. I add color last. ouo Then post!

Feel free to ask questions. I'll be going into detail in a later tutorial. I'll go through each step in a lot of detail breaking it down. If you ask questions here, I can make sure to address it in the bigger one! :la:

It's so cool to see your proces on these. Those small extra shadows and colors really finish the pages :)
