Angel by Ahkward Angel by Ahkward
Lineart commission for jbailuk of their hairless rat, Angel. I didn't want it to just be her.. floating there, so I added some twigs to give her something to sit on. Based on the photos you sent me, she really likes to climb on things.

I'll be honest, never drawn a rat before... very interesting trying to get the shapes right. lol

I especially love how you stylized the folds in her skin!

Looks very cool Kat >:'D

I think you did awesome drawing her. And actually there are hairless animals out in the wild that survive. Those however adapt and deal with the weather change climates, etc. For a hairless their hotter in touch I was even worried about indoor winters for my hairless she's like a furnace. So I'm going to go with all hairless animals are the same. I know it's hard finding hairless rats most places here. And yes rat anatomy is tricky. I've tried drawing them from time to time myself.

Thanks again love LOVE! :)

I truly do not see the appeal of hairless animals, they wouldn't survive in the wild (harsher climates) that is for sure.

Well that depends. Do you know what a naked mole rat is?

I think for some people, it offers a "exotic" aesthetic.

the folds are what  got me when I was trying to do this. show the proper anatomy without them looking like stripes. lol

rat anatomy is so tricky in general (what's up with the hunchbacks??) adding a zillion wrinkles everywhere just sounds impossible!!

well, if you drew every single wrinkle, it would overwhelm the anatomy. The same applies to a brick wall. It's a bit "unrealistic" to draw every brick, that would give too much detail and texture in most cases. So "suggest" the idea of wrinkles and there, boom, looks like wrinkles with less effort. XD
