Why Wildlife Documentaries are so Deceptive
I’ve always been amazed by the naïve level of blind trust the average person places in the media. I think it’s largely due to their fondness for television. Most people grew up with the TV constantly yammering in the background, so I suppose they developed a kind of sentimental attachment to it—viewing it as an old, trusted friend. I sincerely hope that now, as commercial television finally fades from popularity, that misplaced trust in mass media fades with it. But I suspect we still have a long way to go before we see this process show meaningful effects on popular opinion.
Many people—especially those who grew up before the internet took over—tended to view television programming, particularly news and documentaries, as literal windows to the world. Windows with a sharper focus, revealing what was usually hidden or obscure. Even entertainment media is held in abnormally high regard, often seen as educational—not just factually, but morally as well. I’ve always found this

I Have Failed Many Times
I Have Failed Many Times
by p.b. wells
anyone who says they are not afraid of failure
is lying.
believe me,
they are lying.
no bullshit,
they are lying.
they dress it up in clean words,
post it on a wall,
sell it as a scent
called Confidence.
but the truth is uglier
and way more honest.
in “Southern Cross,” Jimmy Buffett says,
“Think about how many times I have fallen.”
and that line sits there
like a rum bottle on a table
that’s seen too many midnights,
too many promises,
too many damn near.
to me, however, fallen is too eloquent
a word for failure.
and I have failed many times.
some of it loud.
some of it quiet.
some of it with witnesses.
some of it with only the ceiling fan
watching me spin.
and I’m damn sure
I will fail many more times
in the future.
because what else is there
if you’re actually doing something?
people love to talk about courage.
they want a medal pinned
to their busted jacket.
they want to be the hero
in a story that never sweats.

The Best of DevBoost: 2025!
🚀 The DevBoost 2025 Recap
In mid 2025 DevBoost was launched as an experimental hub for helping artists get more eyes on their work. In less than one year, it has grown into a structured community with a dedicated admin team, that work together to host organised giveaways that now reach well over a thousand members and watchers across DeviantArt every week!
In late 2025, DevBoost was recognised as an official @Community affiliated group within DeviantArt’s Ambassador Program, marking a huge milestone for what started as a small experiment!
