I wholeheartedly agree! she and the fem grey warden would have been so cute together, but sadly It was needed she was romanceable by the ale warden only because the old god baby plot ( I wouldn't have minded my warden raising alistair's baby with her though)
Oghren. He had so much baggage so dramatic lover's spats would be in the cards (to contrast wine and roses with Leliana and Alistair), he's a dwarf and its super weird dwarves haven't been romance options yet. He's also voiced by Steven Jay Blum which is reason enough to do anything. You didn't even have to end up together -- like Shep and Jacob -- but go through something messy and meaningful.
Honestly, I didn't find Cullen that appealing in Origins. He was too naive back then. I know, that's a matter of personal taste, but I just always fall for dark characters who are in deep conflict with themselves, so it was only after the circle quest that I took interest in him. Before I found him too flat of a character to really fall in love with (I totally did in DA:I though ^^).
I liked Cull in DAO, not enough to romance him but I thought he was a memorable character who added flavor to the mage's (Amell?) story. I loved the character he is in DAI but I feel like there's a huge disconnect and he's not even close to the same guy, and <unpopular opinion incoming> I think he'd have made a better (and had more impact as) lieutenant to Corypheus than Samson.
It would indeed have made more sense for him and I would have loved a deathscene of him, where he finally realizes, he was wrong (Yeah, that's unpopular, but in the story he actually got just too much happens off screen to make his sudden turn plausible. That doesn't mean it couldn't happen or wasn't well written. I love his story. It's just missing some major details ^^)
That would indeed be nice, but I don't think, it would be possible without some major plot changes that would probably take ages to implement in a game (just imagine all those different lines for dialog ... or the myriads of different cutscenes )
That's true, I feel much the same as you and honestly, it was DA2 that made me interested in Cullen and I love him in DAI. Loghain would have been interesting but it is only what I have learned of him since I first played DAO that makes me feel that way. So in the end, there isn't anyone in DAO whom I wished had been a romance option but wasn't. DA Awakening is another story.
In DAI, I want Abelas! My Lavellan wants so much to help her people and reclaim lost knowledge and who else would he find in modern Thedas? My Lavellan is bound to his god, defeated a man who would be god, and was dumped by a god who wasn't man enough to tell her the truth.
I think it was just that his character got so much more depht by going through hell. He pulled through and wasn't entirely unaffected by it (like our dear Inquisitor). It made him more human than most of the other characters. It was the same with Loghain. He had flaws (many of them), but he did what he could and he wasn't "just evil".
I think we may meet Abelas again in one of the coming DA games. But I don't think it would have made much sense to make him available as a romance option in DA:I. He would have never stayed with the Inquisition and if he (for some odd reason) would have fallen in love with the Inquisitor, it would likely have ended like with our dear wolfy. You have to consider that he lay asleep for centuries and now has to adapt to the changed world around him.
Yes, exactly! Like you, I have a thing for characters struggling with inner demons and dark pasts.
Oh, I agree, it really wouldn't have been workable to romance Abelas in game -- not unless they added the perhaps lore/world-breaking expansion of my dreams where my Inquisitor gets to use her power and influence to demand the Dales be returned to the elves and uses her knowledge to rebuild, reclaiming what they can of the past and creating a new future... I could imagine Abelas joining her in such an effort, eventually finding new life and purpose and maybe, just maybe, love.
When we talk about normal-looking romances, Jowan and Loghain When you talk about my high-expectations,not normal and should-be-very-well-written, then Architect. Don't ask, forbidden fruit is the sweetest.
i agree with everone who wants Sten and Jowan for romance ^^ and ... uhm ... maybe Loghain? if there's a possibility to romance Loghain without modding i don't know and what about Isabela? i know, there is this option with Alistair in a threesome, but her alone? and some of my friends asked a while ago, why Wynne isn't a romance option. and Irving. and Greagoir. or even Flemeth. i mean, yeah, most gamers prefer younger characters for romance but there are also older gamers who want to romance characters in their own age ... (ancient elves don't count! XD)
In Origins it would definitely have been Teagan. I mean, he does even FLIRT! ...But then nothing happens. Such a disappointment. When I played a human noble for the first time and met Teagan for the first time, I would have in a heartbeat tossed Alistair into a cheese cart and run off with Teagan! Alas, that was not an option... As for the Awakening, when playing as a mage that was jilted by Alistair, it would have been soooooooo immensely gratifying being able to romance either Nathaniel or Anders... Why, Bioware, why did you not make that possible???!!!
If you mean just Origins, then probably Sten. I think it could've been a very strange but interesting romance. And if we count non-companions, then maybe a little fling (real, not like the sad flirting we got) with Cullen and Teagan. If you consider Awakening also, both Nathaniel and Anders (though we did got the chance for him eventually ).
Anders in awakening, I thought he was snarky cute. Main game though, I was really thirsty for Sten. I sort of have a thing for large smart men. they even talk about the qunari mating and im like UNF. BIOWARE. JUST. LET. ME. AHHHHHH
