Here is my entry for :iconunicorn-club:’s and :iconwaterhorses:’s contest! The theme of the contest is “Two Worlds, One Love” and the idea was to draw two fantasy equines in love with each other but separated by water. One of the equines must have a horn and at least one of them should be some kind of water equine.

So here in this entry of mine I decided to draw a white unicorn with glowing horn visiting her underwater lover by bathysphere! Don’t ask where she did get that bathysphere – maybe some kind gnomes lent it for her... Gnomes do have all kind of weird devices. Obviously equines are not able to touch each other but this way they can spend more time together than sharing moments by waterline, where another couldn’t breathe.

This picture was horrible thing to scan and I had to do lots of tweaking to make it look decent. Added some glowy stuff to the picture (to waterhorse’s tentacles and around air bubbles) because love pictures need to have something extra special. And please do not mention that my waterhorse looks like my dragons – the design serves as equine this time. ;P

:iconbummiesplz: Wish me luck! :iconbummiesplz:

Tools: Watercolors, salt, colored pencils, white gouache, Gimp.

EDIT: The winners are now announced: [link] :trophy:
I didn't place in a group of first three but congrats to them who did! Well deserved.

Did you think of this yourself or did you do a drawing prompt thing, Because I can never think of anything creative to draw

This was for a contest with a theme “Two Worlds, One Love” (the idea was to draw two fantasy equines in love with each other but separated by water. One of the equines must have a horn and at least one of them should be some kind of water equine) but the idea of bathysphere was my own. ^^

Thank you!

I love this. It feels very unique, and sweet.

It's cute how the tail of the waterhorse is wrapped around the bathysphere.

Thank you very much! I tried to make a sweet picture but also find a new approach to the contest's theme. :giggle:

Interesting idea!
You managed to catch the fins of the water horse's nicely, too! Did you use a white pencil to make the glow, or did you use paint?
Agaave's avatar
Thanks a lot! :dummy:

I used white gouache on waterhorse's fins. That was actually a mess: at first I painted too much gouache there and I had to scratch some of it away (gouache is awesome stuff because of that - you can easily scratch it when it is dry). Then I colored over it with colored pencils (another reason why that stuff is awesome: you can color over it!) and let some of the color shine through. So the effect was born by accident. ;P

However the glow at the end of the tentacles is added afterwards with Gimp so I cheated there a bit.

You're welcome!
I think I used to have gouache, but all the pots probably dried out. Though, I don't think I ever tried to scratch it off when it's dry. It could be an interesting way of drawing! Scratching out a picture in a spot of dried gouache!
Cheating a bit never hurts! ;)

Yeah, best ideas usually born by accident! :XD:
I wouldn't have gone and scratched the paint unless I wasn't trying to save the drawing. :giggle:
