Well, he was not a top model, that's for sure :) Glad you like it.

Not all the fan-artists seem to agree (or even game developers), so it's always refreshing to see such a version.

Interesting. He reminds me of Geralt from the first Witcher game...? (only bit older?) (Unfortunately I have not yet read W. series books, so I cannot compare your pic to books descriptions.) Quite do difference from TW3 game; there he was quite the looker (and charmer). :D (I had him modded (to look less like normal human) and still he was... just... mmmmm, I understand those sorcereses, I would bang him too. Hahaha omgforgeti'vesaidthatplease.)

But this yours Geralt? He really looks like someone from Middle-ages, someone who goes through some real hardships, someone who has hard life, hazzardous profession (well, duh, he is Witcher) etc. etc.
He has interesting look in his face... it's... as if he has tired eyes. And yet there is... idk... resolve? in him? Certain determination, a core of steel, will(power) to go on. He may be weary but he has Path before him and he's going to walk it.

Aaah, ignore my ramblings, my brain is half asleep (it's midnight right now). It's just... bloody good portrait. ;-)

Thanks for the comment. It is indeed different from the game model. That's just my version of Geralt as I imagined him when I was reading books. Maybe I went to far but well, let's just say he drank too much :P I'm still happy how it turned out though. And I'm glad you like it, thanks again :) Oh, and one more thing - read the books! You won't regret it :)

Fenomenalne przedstawianie Geralta.

P.S. Piękne oczy!

I've caught up to the books.... Yes Shani was awesome... But that tragic romance between Essi and Geralt :iconfeelsplz: It was a great short story as it broke with the norm of the story of him just beating monsters and the Mermaid was fun to read on.

Although I pictured him to be a bit more handsome (I played the second game before I read the books and it's kind of stuck in my head), yours is definitely more accurate than most that I've seen. He has been taking potions for years, went through mutations, gone through trauma and stress, he's dated Yennefer (XD)... that could put some weariness on anyone. Needless to say, Geralt is a witcher and they're suppose to be funny looking at best and horrifying at worst. And not going to lie if someone looked like that and approached me, I probably would be afraid of them. And this is only his profile, imagine what he would look like strolling into your village with two swords on his back. We're human and flawed, and we judge on appearance hence why others are scared and/or judge him except for a few. I think he would be less of a "freak" if he looked like Brad Pitt. It's sad really, it reminds me of Victor Hugo's The Man Who Laughed. (Gwynebleidd = Gwynplaine. If you haven't read it, give it a read.)

To the poster who questioned how he could get women to sleep with him, it's probably because he has a charming personality? Looks aren't everything. As I stated, he's charming, witty, a good guy to have a drink with, and he treats women with respect. Not to mention, he can't get them knocked up or give them a STD. Also he kills monsters for coin. It's badass. It also could be some wish fulfillment on the writer's part, but who cares?

I must ask, was Mads Mikkelsen your model? His lips and profile reminds me a bit of him.

anyway, sorry for the rambling! Great job! :D

Exactly my point. Well written. Couldn't agree more :) People didn't know him so they judged him based on his look. Under that look he was more human than most people. But if he wanted, he could just smile or look at you and you'd run away. I haven't read "The Man Who Laughed" but I'll check it out for sure, thanks :)

And to answer your question: Yes, Mads Mikkelsen was one of a few influences.

No no, thank you for your comment. It was very valuable :) And I'm really glad you like my version of Geralt :)

Again..not fitting the character. If Geralt looked like that, why would all those women have gone after him? This guy is literally off putting. No amount of character could make most women want a guy that fugly. And the expression…he looks like a snide, cruel humorless old man. There is nothing but hate in those eyes. And WHY is he wearing lipstick?

That is your opinion and it's cool :) Remember that everobody have their own interpretations of characters from the books. This is mine. Geralt was not James Bond or Brad Pitt. He was not handsome. He was not looking like a model who just came out from a sunroom. He has that "thing" which was fascinating for women and it was mostly his personality, not the way he looked, at least not as much. There, straight from the books:
"What a horrible smile, thought Geralt, wanting to seize his sword. I really have a dreadful mouth. My eyes blink appallingly. Is that really the spitting image of me? By the plague." - "Sword of Destiny"
""I'm glad to hear it," the white-haired man smiled. At the sight of his smile, which bloomed on his pale face like an open wound, the crowd began to disperse." - "Sword of Destiny"
"He had changed.[...]although mutation could hold back the physical process of ageing, it did not alter the mental. Geralt's face, slashed by wrinkles, was the best evidence of this. With a sense of deep sorrow Triss tore her gaze away from the white-haired witcher's eyes. Eyes which had evidently seen too much. What's more, she saw nothing of what she hadexpected in those eyes" - "Blood of Elves"

People were scared of him. Of his eyes, of his voice. He was afterall a monster slayer. A mutant. He wasn't cruel or cold but af first you might think that. He was snide and ironic. And the beauty is that inside he was totally opposite. In the end he was tired. Not exactly Dandelion type of guy. You should be able to read that from his face. All those year of fighting monsters, drinking elixirs, finding Ciri, losing her, then finding again. Same story with Yennefer. Watching his loved ones dying, beeing hated be everybody just for beeing a witcher. Et cetera. That should leave a mark and that what I was trying to capture. Was I succesful? I don't know but I was trying to.

I find your artwork of Geralt to certainly be one of the more realistic ones. But I personally imagine him to be a little bit more attractive than average when NOT on his witcher drugs, because there are a few signs for this, for example the giggling sorceresses on Thanedd, or the giggling girls at the tavern in Toussaint. So for me this might be how he looked towards the end of The Lady of the Lake, where as we know he went through some tough shit, after losing friends and all that.
Anyhow, I whole-heartedly agree with the notion that everybody should have their own interpretations!

Thank you for the comment. You have every right to imagine him that way :) And don't get me wrong, I don't think he was ugly. I just think he wasn't this stereotypical handsome hero kind of guy. I think that women liked that whole image of him, this beeing a witcher, sort of a bad boyish type, different than other people. That "thing" which is hard to describe but we all know what it is when we see it.

There were a couple things that made Geralt desirable to women. For one, his personality was attractive, because he was very kind and respectful, to put it simply. The other thing is Geralt is a very strong man, both physically and mentally, and women are attracted to strength as a general rule.

And yes, Geralt was described as looking pretty repulsive, with a smile that "bloomed on his pale face like an open wound".
