Zupaysaurus skull by Afrovenator Zupaysaurus skull by Afrovenator
Zupaysaurus was considerd a early tetanuran in its original description, but when I undertook my first attempt in 2003 at this taxon, I noticed similarities to Coelophysis. This resulted in a reconstruction which resembled Dilophosaurus strongly because the supposed presence of a nasal crest. Hereafter, I received an e-mail from Gabriel Lio who confirmed that my interpretation of Zupaysaurus' phylogenetic relationships was correct.

This is the 4th version of this skull reconstruction, and I am still not completely happy with it. The 3rd version included the nasal crest, but restudy of the specimen proved that the supposed crest was part of the maxilla, which was removed in this version.

Combined scale bar 20 cm in length
