Sailor Neptune by Aetherya Sailor Neptune by Aetherya
...Aww snap, I was forgetting to upload this one. D:

It was a gift for a real-life friend of mine. She likes Sailor Neptune, so it's Sailor Neptune. 8D

...I don't like the shading on her legs o<-< But she did like the pic, so that's what mattered in the end :iconhappytearplz:

There are two light sources, one is the sun from the sky and the object she's holding. Do you know how far she is from the sun, and the light intensity of the object?

I admit I wasn't thinking too much of the sun, even though it's obvious that I DID include it. As for answering the question, I think (THINK) it would have been better effect-wise if I limited the light source solely to her mirror, and the mirror itself giving off a strong light.

I'll give you some advice, you cannot see the light of the flash light at daylight right? This is similar with the mirror reflection. You need a place where you are in a shadow in order to see the light reflection of the mirror

I don't think I fully understand... I understood it to be either:

1. To make the highlight/shadows contrast more drastic, or

2. to get rid of the fictitious "sun" lightsource altogether?

Or is it neither? I'm appreciating your comments. :)

1. Well if you want to remove the direct sunlight, you would need to make the day at late afternoon, dusk, night, or midnight. (When the sun appears varies from place to place, you know what I mean :P)

2. If you want to keep the sunlight source at day, you need to block the sun with something, such as a large cloud. And the sunlight should be slightly tilted at the top of the cloud, or directly on top of the cloud so you can see the light from the mirror.

Is the light emanating from the mirror or the reflection of the mirror?

Just remember the flashlight, you can't see it properly because the sunlight is stronger than it. (Sorry if I can't explain it probably, but you know what I mean :P)

You can't just change the highlight/shadows just because you need to make the light from the mirror more visible. The light around the environment determines the shadow of the piece.

Let me try to draw it XD

Sorry if this isn't making any sense XD

Ah, I guess the thing with this picture is that I didn't fully plan out the environment when I colored the subject. xDD I keep doing that if I don't be careful o>-<

I always tend to focus on the subject too without paying attention from the environment XD
