In Retrospect by Aetherya In Retrospect by Aetherya
I was originally going to do this when I was "actually better" at drawing. XDD

But I now know that artistic improvement is a constant change. I honestly am blind to my own improvement right at the moment. But the thing was, I was the same blind creature just three and a half years ago, unable to see if I would actually get better, and exactly how.

I wanted to share a tiny fragment of the drawings I made between the winter of 2006, when I "officially" started drawing, and the summer of 2007. These are the product of my very first year of drawing, and be advised that these are only seven of them. I currently have in my binders HUNDREDS of drawings I made between then and now, and I did those purely because I loved something, and I wanted to express it.

I hope you can see why I am always quite optimistic about our improvement in art. (It's not common to see me optimistic, telling ya. xDD)

The below are descriptions for each pictures:

-----

1 - The drawing that started it all. I have been making arts since little, but I turned serious at it exactly on my sixteenth birthday. (Yes, my birthday is December 4th. >83) I have actually made a study of a Gardevoir before I drew my own pose in this one, a habit that I still have and I believe is really helpful. This is Virgo, my Gardevoir OC, and she is pretty much THE Gardevoir that makes appearance in my countless Gardevoir drawings then. xD

2 - A chibi Gallade. Specifically, this is Marcellus, my Gallade OC. Like Virgo, he is THE Gallade who stars in most of my drawings at this period.

3 - One of my rare attempts at humans. This is Michelle, the OC I've been talking about. xD I've had her since the beginning of my fandom at Pokemon. She is also Virgo's Trainer. Notice the stick-y limbs (a result of drawing mainly Gardevoir), out-of-proportion facial features, and what I call the "fish-eye syndrome" in her far eye.

4 - "Nearer Than You Think": Michelle and Virgo. This is the most recent work out of the seven displayed here. I still haven't lost the fish-eye syndrome. Gardevoir and Gallade were my ideal models for drawing back then, because I didn't need to draw a whole lot of musculature in them, and their far eye is covered with hair.

5 - An attempt at Virgo's gijinka. I included this for you to see the "fish-eye syndrome" up closer. xDD

6 - An attempt at gijinka Gallade, never got past the beginning stage. I was that self-conscious of my own inability to draw a human figure. Now I know I shouldn't have been, but to some degree, I still carry that.

7 - Another attempt at gijinka Gallade, this time Marcellus. This one also never got past its beginning stage.

-----

I've come a long way, and I have even longer way to go...

I should really do an improvement meme one day. :3

...WHEN I GET BETTER. xDD

Gardevoir and Gallade belong to Nintendo.
Michelle, Virgo, Marcellus, and the drawings belong to me.

We all get better. I believe I most definitely need improvement right now, but I also believe I will continue to improve. :aww:
