HP Lovecraft is one of my favorite authors, and inevitably this leads me to torment others with Lovecraftian creations. This newer Cthulhu was *mostly* fun to do – although it did end up on the back burner for a while, and it’s nice to finally be done with it. Only thing that I really want to point out is that the perspective is ‘wrong’ on purpose (which was a good thing about this, because I was free to do whatever I wanted to it and it wouldn’t really be wrong  ).

(Cthulhu ftagn, and all that)

Been thinking of doing something a bit like that (though more surreal than space art).
Hopefully I can get a bit more organized soon and work on new things like that.
TY for your comments :)

Everyone loves Cthulhu. Or, I do at least. IT's great. He's the BESt guy. But then, maybe I just love all things lovecraftian, too. Mayyyybe I just like the fact that he's an insanity god.

A GREAT picture! love the coloring and your idea of Cthulhu is both frightening and wonderfully designed!
we need to join together on something since I'm sure their are a few folks here who aren't part of what I'm about to talk about T_T.

Cthulhu and giant monster fan Kaiju Combat (a game being made by the team that brought the world Godzilla:Destroy all Monsters Melee, Godzilla:Save The Earth, Rampage Total Destruction, and Godzilla unleashed) is a new giant monster fighting game the team is trying to get funded on kickstarter in October. We just need folks to sign up on the forums and give your input. This game is using a voting system to get various monsters into the game (Cthulhu is a major one right now and will be in game if we get enough votes for him on his poll according to the creator) and we need forum members to vote and give feedback so we can make this game the best it can be!

Hey, can I use this in a video for the National's "Exile Vilify", giving you full credit in the description?

I only ask because it is awesome.

If it's a fan thing (rather than something specifically commercial) then sure. Thanks for asking.

Yeah, I prefer asking before using and then getting a notice to take down the video or whatever. And it is (or will be) a fan thing.

I really like this picture, but I do have a question:
How did Cthulhu get so popular? I mean truth be told he's not that powerful of a Lovecraftian entity.
He is far outstripped by Azathoth or Yog-sothoth or even Yibb-Tstll. I'm not trying to say he isn't cool, but I'm just curious.

I'm not so sure about that, but my guess is that it had a lot to do with August Derleth. He popularized Lovecraft a good deal. The plus of this was that his work became more widely known, the minus was that it became known more as horror than as science fiction and 'gods' that were more easily personified (described in more detail or just easier to represent pictorially) became more popular than others, regardless of how the actual entities were originally portrayed in the stories.

Ah, I forgot about Derleth, yes you're right he probably was why. Thank you.

um, welcome, I guess :)
there's people who think otherwise, as I recently seem to have a habit of 'making friends' (by which I mean enemies).
