I could find use for this. I've been wanting something like the Desir hair, just longer.

I'm not sure if it's much longer than Desir, I think they're similar length-wise, but it's certainly a different style and with some cool movements!

Well, I'd love something like Desir but longer. It's my go-to for realistic looking hair. In fact I just did a few renders last night with it, but the character is depicted as having longer hair in the stories.

We'd like to make a straight longer hair, but longer hair always poses the problem of being very poly-heavy, we may be getting around to it, sooner or later, even though it would probably be much longer than we have done so far.

As long as it's Victoria 4 friendly for Poser users I'll be happy.

I blame Smith-Micro for not having Genesis compatibility.

Unfortunately we stopped supporting V4, I think it's been over a year and Poser is outside our radar as well.
Sorry about that, we're quite focused on G3 (and G2) at the moment.

I've heard the problem with Genesis and Poser is squarely on the head of the Smith Micro CEO throwing a hissy fit. DAZ has pretty much said they were willing to give Smith Micro full developer support for adding the skinning technology (which is pretty well industry standard these days). Apparently their CEO didn't want to be dependant on another company for a core technology even though they've functionally been dependant on DAZ figures for close to a decade or so anyway. No one really uses the Smith Micro figures even though they're really pretty nice.

Then again Smith Micro trades as a junk stock and they're hemorrhaging money and engineers. Apparently it's a horrible company to work for and their upper management is rudderless. (A year ago they wanted to be a cellular radio company, now they want to be an art company.) No one is willing to invest in the company because it's obvious they have no idea how to make money. I have a feeling they'll be delisted from NASDAQ before too long which is pretty much a death sentence for a publically traded company. If they go out of business and Poser will probably be sold to another company... Who will probably immediately add support for the skinning technique Genesis.

Honestly, if I'd known that four years ago I'd have focused on Daz. The features that make Poser interesting to professionals are well beyond my skill to use as an amatuer. (I was hopeful when they added "jiggle physics" in Poser Pro 2014 only to discover it's way too complicated to make work right.) But I have several hundred dollars tied up in third-party plugins for Poser and moving to Daz would be prohibitively expensive these days. (I find OctaneRender superior and easier to use than iRay or SuperFly.)

This is interesting to read. I agree with your first paragraph!
The point with figures is that is not *too* hard to make a figure that looks good and is well rigged, but then you need it to be versatile, i.e. have many and great looking morphs.
And that is exactly what most figures, for sale or free truly lack. The point is D|S/Poser figures aren't supposed to be "a model", but more like a model/characters platform, so great shaping morphs are just equally important as the base figure and that's exactly what Daz figures have had in spades and better than anybody else.
And then the revolution in this kind of versatility is what Genesis has brought.
It takes someone really short-sighted not to see that and of course G3 is the evolution of that concept/tech with added compatibility with other tools, add to it Iray and you've got the best complete package overall (in fact Daz Studio was truly lacking on the rendering quality front before Iray).

So, I can really understand both your position and disappointed and I have to confess that after starting to work in and for Poser since 2001 we haven't even taken a look at the features of the new release.
We are just no longer interested, because it's no longer worth our time to take Poser into consideration for developing products.
And as for the "professional" features, to be honest they have often really lacked in speed, accessibility and functionality (maybe this has changes, we don't know).

Also, as Octane users ourselves we can confirm there is no comparison with Iray, which is very, very good, but i still quite a new tech, whereas Octane has been here for years, also the plug-ins for both Poser and DAZ Studio are now developed by face-off, which is simply great at it!
Can't talk about SuperFly as we don't have any experience with it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts/info/experience!
