Q and A: Costumier's and Seamstresses

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 25, 2009, 9:44 AM

DEAR  dA COSTUMIER'S, TAILOR'S & SEAMSTRESSES,
I REQUEST A BIT OF HELP & I COULD USE YOUR INSIGHT.
CURRENTLY I'M COMPOSING MALE STOCK THAT HAS RENDERED ME TO A COMPLETE HALT.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN:
:bulletwhite: ATTACH 1/4 - 1/2 INCH (2.54 c) EQUESTRIAN LEATHER TO WOOL ?
I HAVEN'T THE STOMACH FOR PUSHING UPHOLSTERY NEEDLES INTO BOTH AT ONCE UNTIL THE MEAT ON MY THUMBS LOOK LIKE SWISS CHEESE.  ANY ALTERNATE IDEA'S ?
I CAN ALSO GO AS FAR AS A MCGYVERING OF SORTS ... YOU KNOW, TEMPORARY METHODS LIKE VELCRO (WHICH I HATE) UNTIL THE STOCK PHOTOSHOOT IS COMPLETED.
THOUGHTS !?

LOVE TO YOU ALL,
A PRINCE

I would suggest you getting some dark coloured thread to match the colour of the leather then sewing right around the leather (if its like a strap) so you are actually only sticking the needle through the wool either side of the leather.
If its a full leather piece you'd be a bit stuck. Without going to extreme lengths of using super glue I'm not sure how you'd do it other than to use a metal awl to poke holes in the leather first for stitching through later.

'ELLO LOVE ! YES, I'VE SEEN THIS EXPEDITED. LOVE IT BECAUSE I CAN EASILY REMOVE THE STITCHING/ THREAD LATER WHEN I'M FINISHED WITH THE SHOOT & THERE WONT BE ANY EVIDENCE OF THE LEATHER STRAPS BEING THERE.THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ! XO

What's the state of the wool? Are we talking a pressed piece like felt or knitted like a sweater? If it's a weighted pressed piece, you might be able to get away with grommeting and lacing--although that's less Swiss Cheese Thumb and more Painful Aching Hammer Hand.

The only way I can think of right now that doesn't involve an awl and a thimble is Super Glue but it's by no means a perfect solution.

THANK YOU FOR WRITING ! THE STATE IS MORE OF A PRESSED WOOL.
HA HA, TRADING SWISS CHEESE THUMB FOR P.A.H.HAND SOUNDS A BIT LIKE "WOULD YOU RATHER" AND I'M CRAVING THE NO PAIN VARIETY OF EACH.
I APPRECIATE *ALL OF YOUR IDEA'S FRIEND, I DID ASK FOR THE McGYVERING VERSION DIDN'T I ? grin

Yes, but to truly MacGuyver we'd need some explosive material, old chewing gum, and a paperclip, and I had no idea if you could get the paperclip in time. ;)

I'd heard rumors of a paperclip banquette set. Good to see the rumors of a set to seat 40 dignitaries is just a rumor, and you went with something much more sensible. :D

There is such a thing as "liquid thread" which bonds fabric together really strongly. I bought some once from a craft shop. Perhaps you could look out for some? I'm not sure if it'll work with leather, though. I once patched up a hole in a colleague's leather jacket using an upholstery needle .... "Swiss cheese" just about describes the result on one's thumb

GREAT IDEA SWEETS. WE HAVE A WITCH STITCHERY & SEWING GLUES/ FUSES. BUT LIKE MY COOKING ... I MAKE EXCESS & I FEAR I'D HAVE A HEAVY HAND WITH GLUE. YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT THE LEATHER BEING SEALED DOWN -COULD BE A BIT FINICKY HUH.

I DO FURNITURE DESIGN (& UPHOLSTERY) TO THE POINT THAT DUCT TAPING A METAL DISC TO THE PAD OF MY THUMB IS NEVER BENEATH ME :giggle:

Liquid Stitch, while fabulous, doesn't really work on leathers, satins, laces, or any fabric that can be described as gossamer.

This is why I like leather patches and an iron. It ain't perfect but it avoids the swiss cheese thumb :D

Oh Johnny Johnny... is there nothing thy cannot doth? Or something like that... :giggle:

I've been in love with him since I was about 16... it's never faded...

Sadly I will have to wait much longer than you to watch this. If it comes out Spring 2010, I will have to wait til it hits my satellite tv. I don't have a cinema here on the island, and the video store is too far away... *sigh* It'll probably be about 2011 before I see it... :crying:

I saw your little man in my box, ermm my shout box. :giggle: Thankies!

And hurry up with the nudies!!! I don't care what your skin colour turns out like! Digital artists can change the colour anyway... :eager:

Tim Burton is one of my favorite directors and Johnny Depp one of my favorite actors. I wish we didn't have to wait till next spring to see this!

 GEO !!!!!!!!!

DEPP IS A VERY *VERY LUCKY MAN
TO BE GIFTED WITH SUCH TALENT
... HE SEEMS UNTOUCHABLE IN HIS GENRE.
I SUPPOSE I COULD SAY THE SAME ABOUT TIM.
CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING SOMEONES CONSTANT MUSE ?

YEA, SPRING 2O1O ... SO FAR AWAY !
BUT ! THIS FILM HAS BEEN PICKED UP
AND DROPPED ABOUT 6 TIMES BY DIFFERENT
DIRECTOR'S OVER THE COURSE OF 6 YEARS.
THAT GIVES ME BREATHING ROOM TO WAIT TIL 2O1O.

HOW'S YOUR PUPPY ?

I really can't imagine anyone other than Tim Burton doing the movie.

The puppy, Norton, is doing fine. He's getting a bit chubby and I'm not sure I know why because I don't feed him much. Had his thyroid checked and it's okay. I guess he's just a portly pup! But he's the sweetest dog in the world and loves most of the other creatures he meets. Only exception is one dog in the neighborhood that none of the dogs like and the racoons that come to the back door at night.

I loved your polls today! Problem with polls is that I could easily pick more than one answer for both of them. Eagerly awaiting your stock photos and to see more of that beautiful body!

Now that you have a house, you need a puppy too!

Have a great day, chat with you soon.

I CANT SEE ANYONE OTHER THAN TIM BURTON
COMPOSING BITS LIKE THIS EITHER.
HE'S OUR GO TO GUY.

AWW NORTON, THE PORTLY PUP, THAT'S TOO DAMN SWEET !
HOW'S IS HIS EXERCISE ?

THANK YOU FOR LIKING MY POLLS
I REALLY VALUE MY POLL ANSWERS,
THEY MAKE ME STRONG.
EVEN IF I DO, ALWAYS FORGET TO MAKE A CHOICE
FOR *ALL OF THE ABOVE OR IF I MISS A CHOICE
ALONG THE WAY.

I HAVEN'T DONE NUDES FOR QUITE SOME TIME, HUH.
:whisper: -I Am Concerned With How The Colour Of My Skin Will Turn Out.

YES, I DO NEED A PUPPY
... WOULD LOVE A BOXER !
OR A HUSKY OR AN ALASKAN MALAMUTE
BUT I WOULD NEVER GET ONE & EXPECT IT
TO BE HAPPY WITH THE WEATHER HERE.
IT'S ALMOST 92º RIGHT NOW. THE SUN IS *VERY HOT
ON THE SKIN & THE CLOUDS ARE TRAPPING IN THE
MOISTURE FOR TONIGHT'S RAIN/ LIGHTNING.

I WILL, YOU HAVE A GREAT DAY, TOO !
ALWAYS,
GABRIEL

I had a husky-shepard mix a while back and the hair was all over the place. They shed by the handful in spring and fall! Get a short haired dog, they don't like the cold so when you take them out in the winter, it's a quick walk!!

Boxers are great dogs. When I was a kid, my best friend had a boxer and I walked him more than he did because I couldn't have a dog. Best bet, get a rescue dog. They know they have been given a second chance and will love you for it.

As for the color of your skin, whatever color it is I'm sure will be great. You sent or posted a nude a while back that was one of my favorites. I just think whatever you do will be great! One thing, a lot of 'stock' photos of nudes have too much going on in the background. What could be a nice figure study can be complicated to manipulate because of the background. Best to keep it simple and focus should be on the figure. Just my two cents.

Are you attending the dA thing in NYC? Wish I could get up there but I have too much going on right now.

We are getting thunderstorms tonite here in DC too. I love thunderstorms, it shows the beautiful power of nature.

Take care my friend, and watch out for the lightening!

It was! I loved the way every scene was like a good painting, the composition of the sets and lighting was great too, so much atmosphere...Lol I am not a lover of musicals at all so nearly didn't watch it (even with the lure of Mr Depp) Glad I did though :D

This is going to be a fabulous movie I think. My daughter and I have been watching the progress for so long now. This picture is definitely amazing. Burton is a genius. It is so much fun to watch his movies with my daughter. I remember loving him when I was her age. Funny thing... I have like Johnny Depp since I was her age to. I cracked her friends up when they gave her a Jack Sparrow poster and I told them I had Johnny hanging on my wall when I was their age too. I think they were laughing with me and not at me, or at least laughing close to me :giggle:

Sadness abounds! Maybe next time. :) I had the 21st off also, but apart from being tired I have no other reason not to go...maybe lack of cash. If you're ever near Baltimore though, poke me! :D
