I LOVE your technique. I envy how you do your art. You're so good!! The way you made pok'emon look so realistic is amazing. Arcanine is very well done with the bold black and perfect orange. The multiple colors of tan you used for the fluff tops it off to be very good. But it was hard to see the vulpix on it's head and when I saw the title "Arcanine and Vulpix" I said "where's the vulpix? I only see arcanine!" It was about then that I noticed the vulpix. Knowing how fierce arcanine is, this just makes the whole thing super adorable. I love it!

As a poke fan I am excited to see great art of these magnificent creatures which brings them to life and lends a sense of realism to fantasy.

I think you did a very clever thing matching the colors up closely enough that it takes a second to spot Vulpix up on Arcanine's head.

There is a lovely combination of textures, light, color and shadows that give this piece a real peacefulness and you can feel your eyes get drowsy and your heart warm as you see these two very different creatures cuddling together in the shared bliss of rest.

I believe it's a very peaceful calm drawing..the way you colored it and made the character's resting makes the viewer feel like it's a moment of great peace, and silence that is to be admired yet not disturbed. it's real enough that looking at makes me just want to whisper for fear that they might wake because of me. The shading and lighting is very brought out although there are a few...just a few places where more shading could be added. The color scheme fits the entire atmosphere and depiction of these two very cool pokemon characters. And I love how I can tell the smooth fur from the rough...and from the hair. You clearly gave some effort to texture. Overall it's Beautiful.

I personally think that you had have lots of technique in this drawing. You pull together the utter most creativity and originality in your artwork. Think is just pure, and intellectual. You used the right colors, And for the Arcanine, it is vibrant, and almost looks merciless, but you put this fierce some creature where it needs to be. And along with the Vulpix, it feels as if it is in the right place, you have a lot of young talent. The wild, long hair from the Arcanine I feel is a create from your wild side. You did a fine job. Keep it up. Well done.

I am IN LOVE with this! Arcanine is my favorite Pokémon. You did WONDERFUL on him (or her, but I'll call him, Him).
You did amazing on the texture of his mane, tail and fur. I love how his paw, omgosh on point!! I love where you put vulpix. the only thing I'd like more if (she) was smaller. Arcanine is a huge Pokemon and Vulpix is about the size of a Pikachu (as far as I recall). Do correct me if I am wrong.
Nevertheless, this is an amazing picture. Arcanine still looks bad ass even when sleeping!! and This does seem like a tender moment with them two. The colors are perfect, fur is perfect. You ought to be proud

Okay, rather that do a 'Fav and run', I decided to write a critique on this.

Vision-wise, the only thing that keeps it from getting a full 5 out of 5 is the lack of scenery. That is not a criticism, and i'm not saying it's a bad thing because the focus is after all on Vulpix and Arcanine (also, i'm not one to talk when it comes to using minimal scenery ^^), but unfortunately it causes me to wonder whether more could've been added. I'm not suggesting that would automatically make it better - believe me, I think this Art is spectacular just as it is - it just leaves me feeling curious of 'what could've been'.

Definitely deserves a high rating for originality. I didn't realise this was a pair of Pokemon at first (more on that a little bit later). The style is very unique to you and your other work, but has kept key elements that are key to the Pokemon's identity (Arcanine's long flowing fur + Vulpix's curls). Really like how much of Arcanine's fur has been parted in a way that almost resembles flames (him being a Fire-Type after all). It's also a very unique double act (one that I personally have yet to see in the Pokemon Art out there). They're not 2 pokemon that I would automatically think of together; often, it's usually evolutionary-chains or 'the starter trios'. But two fire types based on Hound species just makes so much sense that now I feel 'why didn't anyone else think of that?'

I don't think I can say much about the technique that I haven't already covered in my previous paragraphs. Other than I absolutely love it!

I've got to say, I was instantly blown away at the sight of this before I realised who it actually was (by reading the title). But at the same time, it loses just a very minimal score for Impact because I didn't instantly think 'Vulpix and Arcanine' when I first saw it. That might've been because Vulpix is partially buried under Arcanine's mane, which while very adorable and very beneficial to the Originality and Vision scores, makes the little Fox tougher to see at first glance. Then again, that's probably more of a shortcomming from me for not being able to see it at first, which is why any deduction i'm giving on the Impact score is as minimal as it can get.

The vision is awesome I think because the color you use are nice
The originality is pretty good because I have never seen any think like that be for
The technique is good because the hair is awesome and the way you can get it to look asleep and so peaceful and the stripes the way you can make it look so real is un believable and that little animal on its head makes it seem so nice
The impact is good and I wish I could say more but I am lost for words I might have to come back to this.

Wow. I'm not quite sure what to say. This is absolutely visually stunning. Just imagining the effort and time you put into this work of art makes my head spin.

Arcanine is usually portrayed as tough and brave, but the way you made him look makes him seem protective and such a wonderful love for that Vulpix. Even though Arcanine's facial expression aren't shown as much, you can tell he cares.

The colors on Arcannine also show an air of softness to hisself.

Vulpix is so cute! She is calm and it is easy to tell she feels safe with Arcanine, this normally intimidating beast.

I'd have to say this is one of the best Pokémon artworks I've ever seen!

The light shows through a small crack in the shutters of the cabin. It's been a long day. And our friends are tired and ready for a long afternoon nap. They stretch out on the wood floor and dream a dream or two. They rest for the adventures that the morrow may bring.
That's the story I see in my mind's eye when i see this piece.

love the shading and design

lighting is really well done....very old school Hollywood, but I watch old movies so that's A ++

Love the wood flooring-well worn without reflection but very comfortable

Great detail and a great job--

Hehe, first time critiquing, so I might not be that good c:

This is so amazing! The fur is very detailed and flows nicely. Lighting is excellent and the Vulpix is just too adorable! I really love the style you used. The style just gives it a nice warm feel to it. As for originality, I have to give this four and a half stars. I've seen lots of art with sleeping Pokemon. But even so, this has to be one of the best Pokemon art I've seen in my life. The whole thing is beautiful, and it shows you have a lot of talent.

I've seen your gallery and I came with high expectations. I was not disappointed.

Your technique is excellent. The fluidity of the flowing hair, the varying tones of the shadowing against the broad strokes of the subtle background. The fine dark lines emphasized the pale of the mane, hinting at its fineness.

I like how you composed; how you lead my eyes from the pale nose (of the large beast) up to the little creature sleeping between its ears, and down around the rest of its body. I did not notice the little creature at first glance. It was like an Easter Egg. A pleasant surprise. Skilfully executed.

Although I am not familiar with the the theme of the 2 characters but given how fierce the large creature looks, I expect it is a ferocious fighter. This very tender moment of gentle slumber retained my attention.

The black background bothers me. I thought I imagined some abstract patches and I strained to see it. I actually lighten my monitor.

I also have a suggestion about the shadows around the base of the hind quarters: the body and the back paws. If the light is at the 3 o'clock position, there should be a little more shadow on the floor.

Great composition, wonderful subject. I want to see more, to find out more about this pair. Which is what makes this picture work.
Adorael's avatar
Thank you so much for such a detailed critique!

I agree with you about the shadow and as far as the background goes, I wanted to give it a little texture, as if there is actually something there only it's too dark to see it.

I'm happy that the little vulpix is a little hard to notice as I was trying to achieve that effect :D
