Tags are the new Keywords
Keywords on deviations were built to be an important tool to help discover artwork. But as deviantART grows and strives to create new ways to discover great content, we’ve found that keywords as we currently use them have become underutilized.  We think we can do better -- and can make a better experience for the community -- by making some changes. In the coming month, keywords will transition into tags, and we’ll be improving the way they work. Tags will better surface artwork, allow deviants to form communities around topics, make it easier to find other artists and art appreciators, and increase discoverability. For example,

deviantART's 11th BirthdAy: Let's Celebrate!
Tweet August 7th, 2011 marks deviantART's 11th birthdAy, but in true devious style, we're taking a whole week to celebrate! Our original plans for Deviants Appreciation Day were so huge that there was no possible way to express our love for the community in a mere 24 hours. Instead, we've created Deviants Appreciation Week, and what better time to host a week's worth of community-oriented events than in the days leading up to our birthdAy? Each day this week, we have something special organized for you to participate in! Check out the schedule of events below to come party with us! In Skribble, our latest community contest, we challenge

How Malware Works Via Banner Ads
by $Heidi  Tweet    How Malware Works Via Banner Ads   As many deviants know, deviantART has been working hard to combat malicious banner ads that infiltrate   our advertising network, and we've previously addressed this issue in   April 2011   and August 2011.     In our ongoing effort to keep the deviantART community safe, we wanted to share the following   USA Today-produced   video that explains how malicious ads inundate the Web.   How Malicous Ads Inundate the Web   (Source: USA Today)   Protect Yourself   Malware advertising is an Internet-wide problem that affects many of the Net's top sites.   Keep

Update: Fair Exposure and Popular Browse
:bulletgreen:  Fair Exposure and miscategorization On January 24th, 2012, we released an hq (https://www.deviantart.com/hq) journal regarding Popular results for Browse. In this journal, we described Fair Exposure -- deviantART's algorithm for Popular browse results.  Fair Exposure's goal is to showcase the most popular deviations in a variety of styles, genres, and art forms, without bias towards a particular topic. Since the release of our Fair Exposure announcement, especially in the last handful of weeks, we've noticed a concerted, dedicated effort made by deviants, or groups of deviants, to specifically beat (or "game") the system.  Deviations have been intentio

Comic-Con: Day 3
Saturday kicked off Day 3 of Comic-Con, and the crowds poured onto the convention floor to start the weekend in Geek Style. At noon, deviantART hosted our final panel: How to Supercharge Your deviantART Profile Like the Masters.  Moderated by none other than our fearless ninja, Angelo (aka spyed (https://www.deviantart.com/spyed)), we were honored to have the following superstars share their deviantART experiences with the crowd: - Adam Warren (AdamWarren (https://www.deviantart.com/adamwarren) -- “The Dirty Pair,” “Empowered”) - Mark Brooks (diablo2003 (https://www.deviantart.com/diablo2003), from Marvel Comics) - Jim Zubkavich (Zubby (https://www.deviantart.com/zubby) -- Project Manager of Creative Services, Udon Entertainment) - Dave Ell

Happy Holidays from DeviantArt!
‘Twas the night before Christmas on DeviantArt, Not a paintbrush was stirring, and creators took heart. The artists scrolled through Daily Deviations with care Knowing kindred warm-fuzzies soon would be there. Deviants were all swiping, all snug on their phones While visions of inspiration across all time zones Were zapped to their smart device, quick as can be, At the tap of a button in a +Fav’ing spree! When across the Interwebs there arose such a clatter, I sprang to the Comments to see what was the matter, “I’m bored,” the Journal wrote, “I’m on a long trip, too. I don’t have my laptop, an

Comic-Con: Day 4
On Sunday, the 4th and final day of San Diego Comic-Con, we were able to keep the love flowing to show the artists and art enthusiasts who came by our booth just how much they meant to us. The last day of Comic-Con is always bittersweet. The air buzzes with positivity, inspiration, and camaraderie, but in the back of your mind, you know it may be another year before you see some of these friends, old and new. Sure, we always have the Internet, but there's something special about meeting in real life that can’t compare to flipping through a portfolio of sketches, laughing out loud with your peers, and supporting artists’ hard wo

Happy holidays from deviantART!
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through dA, Not a troll was stirring, nor Grinch in his sleigh. Deviations were hung in digital Galleries with care, In hopes that +Favourites soon would be there. The n00bs were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of Daily Deviations danced in their heads. And Fella in his 'kerchief, and spyed (https://www.deviantart.com/spyed) with his night-light, Had just settled down to log-off for the night, When over in the Forums there arose such a clatter, Fella sprang back online to see what was the matter. To the browser window he flew like a flash, Tore open the tabs and refreshed the cache. When what to his art-loving ey
